D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

And here we go again. It will be interesting to see how many other names come out in the next couple of weeks. Whenever something like this happens, people always say "In video games, after launch you see this sort of thing all the time, and there's the 'non-edition-edition' that just came...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I think it's sort of funny that we're discussing debts as if the legally enforceable kind are the only ones that exist. While there may not be a legal obligation to fulfill, there is a debt nonetheless. I know that I've broken off friendships and even left a job over these kinds of debts. I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

It is really interesting to see Daggerheart selling more books than D&D, even if only for a little bit. I'll have to check Amazon Canada to see how things stand a month from now.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

This has been my experience as well. There are some folks out there who really don't like Daggerheart and have expressed that dislike very strongly. Maybe it's that they don't like Critical Role. Maybe they don't like narrative play, and maybe they like a specific style of OSR play that's...

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

I think that's a really good question. I think there are examples of games that had huge Kickstarters but no one played. Once a big group is playing and having fun with one, not sure that I can think of one that's faded away. Now I'm sure someone will bring one up to prove me wrong.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

As I've been thinking about this, I do a sports analogy. When a baseball or football team makes a move to acquire the best-known and respected talent that's suddenly available, I think of it as making a big commitment. Okay, so the analogy breaks down in that there's no world series or super...

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

This is really interesting. I think that taking people from the "tradional" RPG world says something about where they want Daggerheart to go, rather than the indie scene. I'm excited to see where this goes.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

We ran a six-session campaign using the beta rules, and we had what I will call "ant and grasshopper" Hope issues. Some of the group treated Hope like a resource they hoarded for emergencies. They ran into the max Hope issue pretty hard. On the other hand, we had the "oh, I have a Hope? Better...

D&D 4E What AI thinks about 4th Edition

I wouldn't have put it in quite the same way, but yeah. I think that the Saving Throw system for 5E is harsh. I would love to hear the design goals behind having a binary "it gets better/no change" system.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

So I ran a session. In person. I feel like there was an alignment of the spheres to make this possible. There's a new bar/restaurant near where I live that's based on gamers and gaming. One of the things they have are private rooms to rent to play board games or RPGs. So I thought I'd get a...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I think the best part of this situation (if I can call something in this situation anything like good) is that Judges Guild, as a player in gaming, is done. I really liked their adventures and content growing up but that was a long time ago, and ... yikes, since then. I think we're about done here.

    City-States of Adventure

I'll suggest the Free City of Haven. I remember this from back when it was released. I played a game in it but didn't own it myself. I think this is still available from channels.

Would ACKS be a good fit to capture the BECMI-feel?

I picked up the second edition due to some strong recommendations from friends who are very BECMI influenced, so I guess I'd agree. It is very much inspired by that edition, but the thing I find interesting is that they put in a system for building spells/abilities/monsters and they follow it...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

That's great to know. I played it before Wrath came out, and I had to use a mod for both camera rotation and turn-based. Both of those are in Wrath by default. That definitely makes it better. I did really enjoy Kingmaker.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

For me, this was the first product of this type in history. I somehow owned it at the time and I really wanted to look at it again and revisit that experience. And in the case of this project, getting a refund for my previous pledge and getting a discount on the new pledge? Yeah, I went for the...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

I have played them both and greatly enjoyed them. With that said, Kingmaker requires a mod to do turnbased mode, which is what you want to be true to the original game. It is also a bit rough around the edges. Both frequently go on sale, but I recommend Wrath of the Righteous as it's more...

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

Given their past track record, I am skeptical. Also, if they started today, we would be talking 5 years from now. Who even knows where D&D will be then?

    D&D 5E (2014) Solasta 2 Announced!!!

I just saw this as well. Using the SRD and their own classes/subclasses, much like the first game. It will be cool to see the new Weapon Mastery rules work. Other than that, not sure there's a lot that makes me go "yay!" for the 5.5E rules. Still, it sort of future-proofs the game for the next...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

I'm really excited as someone who backed the project in 2014. I'm going through the process to get a refund, and I see that I can get a 10% discount on the project itself. Seeing that there's a PDF level, it would be great to get everything electronically. I wasn't expecting that to be an option...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I think this is such an important point. If you run the game on the same way as you do a 5E game, even at worst you’ll have the Hope and Fear mechanics and be able to shape the game with them. And your players will do the same. And if you’re interested in Daggerheart or other similar games, by...
