Green Ronin Crowdfunding Legal Defense Fund In Fight Against Diamond Distrubutors

I won't say it's a powerful driving force behind why I make a Kickstarter purchase, but it's certainly played a part in my decision to support some Kickstarters. I've participated in two Zombicide Kickstarters in part because of the exclusive models that came with it. FOMO certainly isn't...

    Kickstarter: GURPS Mission X

For a while now, I've thought the best way for GURPS to make some kind of come back is to have more self-contained games. Games that have all the GURPS rules needed for that particular genre including powers, skills, or other abilities. The rules for GURPs aren't bad, but if you're just using...

dumb premise for a game - Medieval Aliens

I'd go full alien influence on humanity here and make them the reason the Roman Empire was so successful. All those great Roman structures, their economy, and military prowess are only possible because of alien influences.

Green Ronin Crowdfunding Legal Defense Fund In Fight Against Diamond Distrubutors

From where I'm sitting, RPG companies often have much closer relationships to their customers than larger companies do. I've interacted with Steve Jackson (of Steve Jackson Games), Seth Skorkowsky, and of course the greatest luminary in the RPG sphere in the 21st century, Morrus. And this is...

Power Rankings: Weird Al's Top 26 Songs

"Skipper Dan" is one of the most realistically depressing songs I've ever heard. In a nutshell, the narrator is a dude who started out as a young man with excellent acting skills who ends up with a mediocre career playing the character Skipper Dan on a jungle cruise ride at an amusement park...

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

I voted a reluctant no. The idea is sound, but the execution is lacking. Combat in D&D takes too long as it is and adding yet another thing for people to track is a pain in the rear. I'm not going to house rule them into oblivion, but I'm not going to like it either.

Studio Agate Takes Over 7th Sea From Chaosium

When I read that it was a "pirate" game in the OP I thought to myself that John Wick better not see that. He will most emphatically tell anyone who will listen that it's not a pirate game. He's right of course.

Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set Price Point Revealed

If you can afford to live in anything other than the fanciest of cardboard boxes, it means you're charging too much for your gaming products! (You're going after a different market than A&D, so I think you're safe.) AD&D 2nd edition Player's Handbook - $20 in 1989 which is the equivalent to...

Jess Lanzillo Joins White Wolf as Creative Director

Last summer I ran a one shot and a 72 year old woman joined the game along with her 68 year old husband. I'm certainly not going to knock grandmas. I just remember as a youth my parents/grandparents doing their best to get me what I asked for but running into some difficulty because they...

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

Jaron is specialized or technical language used by a particular group. Aside from roleplaying situations, how often do you tell someone to roll 12d8 and add the sum?

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

This absolutely cracked me up. I don't think I've heard anyone refer to a horror game as liminal, so I'm not hitting the right places apparently, but if I ever see it your definition is the first that will spring to mind.

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

Just this last weekend I had to roll 12d8 to get the damage for a dragon's breath weapon. I'm not sure many dice one needs to be a dice queen. Clearly I don't have enough dice for my own personal needs. Truthfully, I haven't heard any of the terms you listed. Like ever. The world is just...

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

Good luck. I expect any effort to eliminate jargon be about as effective as preventing euphemism treadmills or semantic change. At some point you're just fighting language itself.

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

When I still cared about academia, when I would listen to someone speaking about philosophy they would typically define what they meant when using a term. But then even when people here define what they mean when using a particular word, there's always pushback from someone else who says they...

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

This one used to rankle men whenever I'd hear something referred to as problematic without being told what exactly the problematic part was. It's as if I was supposed to magically know.

RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

Sometimes on Reddit I see people post about a TTRPG in a thread that's about CRPG and vice versa. When it comes to Cyberpunk, since the release of the video game Cyberpunk 2077, in some threads there can be confusion over which version of the game is being discussed. Johnny's version of the...
