I'll be curious to see what options there are in 5e for Monsters-as-Class. I looked into it a few months ago, but I'm darned if I can recall what I found :') Also, how folk'll make Play an Illithid if not As-Class. After BG3 I'd be amazed if there weren't a bunch of DMsGuild PDFs in that vein.

If you're not being sarcastic (can't tell, the plight of text chat!)- you've been playing for decades... How did you make characters before DDB existed?

BTW I feel the need to point out that this doesn't work for everyone; a couple players (out of dozens) really had trouble grokking the rules whether it was digitally or on paper... I'm a decent teacher, but that's where the actual professionals come in :'D Wanted to make it clear that moving...

Yes, DDB is a crutch to new players that prevents many of them from having to learn the game/their characters. This is just my experience obviously, but when I forced players off of DDB and went through character creation and transfers to paper, they learned their characters and game knowledge...

Not sure ofc cuz I'm just guessing based on context, it's up to them if they want to clarify, but it's probably the hope that the game doesn't take an primarily digital direction bent for design. Designing with digital in mind primarily over tabletop, etc.

I'd say "try online games," but you've probably considered that! Locals not an option anymore? Depending on how much energy you have, you can always try to get something going if you can't find anything. I know, easier said than done :)

Yup! And even if you're like me and blow thousands of dollars on it, WotC isn't seeing a lot of that money- all the random folk making TTRPG content are. I buy lots of stuff for DnD that isn't 5e-specific. To be fair though, thousands of those thousands of dollars have been on old WotC or...

Oh yeah, like I said it was a pretty small incentive. I gave an example of a strong one. But to folks saying that it would've persuaded NO ONE to buy- I don't think they understand the mindset. Sometimes a little nudge is all you need.

I'm not clear on what you mean by 8 points instead of 12 points. Are you referring to the average number needed to hit, or attribute bonuses, or? Cuz yeah, it'd be nice if there was less inflation :)

I think they're just pulling from the Rascal article, which has the full text of an internal statement:

Except this is like quietly releasing an MMO without most of the content, and before you do any beta testing. It's hardly a classic MMO "launch," ya know?
