    OGL? SUccess or failure?

Why are we talking only about two possibilities, the 4e using the OGL or being completely closed to publishers? If WotC decides to not use the OGL for 4e, it would more likely use an alternative licensing scheme that has the same purpose of expanding the market, but which gives more control to...

What are the best 1st level psionic powers?

You're not including the Discipline powers? Astral Construct is by far the best and most versatile 1st level power IMO, and remains that good for all psion levels.

[Iron Heroes] Using the core spellcasters...

If youŕe porting over D&D classes to IH, at the very least you should improve their BAB, saving throws, feat progression, and hit points to be in line with how those things work in IH, and give them access to a few skill groups. Some spells should probably be eliminated. Spells that give...

    Variable Power Pools in M&M?

In Hero terms, this is probably more like a flexible Multipower that lets you temporarily use a new power if you spend hero point. But there's still a lot we don't know about the 2nd edition. We know there's a feat called "Ritualist", but have no idea what it does. My guess is that it lets a...

Anyone know of websites or suppliments for ritual magic?

There's a system of ritual magic called Incantations in the d20 modern book Urban Arcana, which was reprinted with less examples in Unearthed Arcana. It focuses almost entirely on very powerful effects, but it could be adapted to lower level rituals as well.

    Paris stores?

The Jeux Descartes store on Rue des Ecoles is about a 5-10 minute walk from Notre Dame cathedral, so it's probably your best bet. There's also another RPG store in the area, called Starplayer, IIRC. There are 2 starplayers in that area. One is just down the street from Rue des Ecoles and only...

    Variable Power Pools in M&M?

Here`s a preview of the Magic power from 2nd edition. Itś not exactly a VPP, but it has the same basic function. And bear in mind that this power is relatively cheap, so the character could have this and a few other powers besides. Alternate Power feats are feats you buy that let you...

Game Stores in Geneva or Prague

Does anyone here know of any RPG game stores in Geneva or Prague? I've been working in Geneva for the summer, but have a couple weeks off now, and am going to Prague, and some other places. I have a few long train and plane rides, and it would be nice to pick up Five Nations or some other...

Iron Heroes - I have it in my hands!

Ah, so the drawing mana is just flavor text for making a roll to cast a spell? The aspects of power sound like they should be fun, and a safe option for arcanists that don't want to risk spellcasting. Do arcanists get any combat feat mastery levels? I could see an arcanist specializing in...

Iron Heroes - I have it in my hands!

I'm curious about this as well. Are there arcanist-specific feats that help them become more interesting spellcasters, or more powerful in their area of focus? What are their feat masteries like? Is it possible to make a decent fighter/spellcaster type? Aside from spellcasting, what class...

Iron Heroes - I have it in my hands!

What are the conversion guidelines like for using D&D without magic items? If I want to create a game using the IL fighting classes, AE witchs magisters and mageblades, and D&D druids, without magic items, does it have concrete guidelines for what to do with the AE and D&D classes?

    EN Milestones

After Wizards first announced 3rd edition, I discovered Eric's website, and checked it daily with bated breath for new 'scoops.' Although I've mostly lurked since them, it's still one of my favorite places on the net, and by far the most friendly, polite, and insightful RPG messageboardI've...

    Iron Heros

That's how I feel about it too. However, I suspect that it may look more complex on paper than it actually is in play. The part that least appeals to me is that it seems to treat game mechanics as a game in themselves, whereas I prefer game mechanics to fade into the background. I'll probably...

Your favourite level to PLAY at?

To play, I like the spot between 7th and 10th level. At those levels the characters all have enough abilities to make things diverse and interesting, but not enough that it bogs down play. Magic users are balanced with warriors and skill users, and combat hasn't yet devolved into "first person...

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince-SPOILERS!!!!

Yes, and it's likely that Voldemort expected to use the murder of Harry to create his last Horicrux, and so had Horicrux preparations in place. When his spell rebounded, the horicrux preparations may have backfired, making Harry into a horicrux. Does anyone have the full text of the prophecy...

Second Half of 2005 - What are you looking forward to?

Things I'm looking forward to so much that I'm going to buy them sight unseen: - Mutants and Masterminds 2e - The Divine and The Mysteries (for Ars Magica) - Magic of Eberron - Blue Rose Companion (more magic, options, and monsters for True20, yess... my precious) I'm also looking forward to...

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

Out of curiosity, are those files still at WotC, or are they something you took with you when you left. Do you think they'll be considered by the designers of 4e? Could you give us an idea of the sorts of things you came up with as the "next step." Were some of those ideas incorporated into...

    True 20 Combat

Rather than import flanking and attacks of opportunity, which require tracking which 'squares' characters move through, and tend to limit fast action and wild derring do, I'd rather just make more use of circumstance bonuses and penalties. AoO's are especially problematic in True20, because a...

Five things that would change the game forever

I'd rather go in the complete opposite direction. Rather than only two types of magic (or three, with psionics), I'd rather that each spellcaster type is its own form of magic. Wizards learn wizardry. Druids wield druidic magic. Clerics wield powers granted of their gods, as before. Each...

    True20 system released by itself

Unless I'm reading it wrong, you still keep your total class-based defense bonus in armor. Armor only limits your "dodge bonus", which consists of your Dex bonus and bonuses from a few feats. It doesn't affect your class defense bonus. It also doesn't affect your parry bonus, which may be...
