    Deryni Adventures RPG.....Anyone seen it?

I've flipped through it in my FLGS, but am putting off buying it until after my exams are finished. I'm a fan of the novels, and it looks like the RPG did them justice. Plus, the magic chapter and the d20 conversion rules were written by Steve Kenson, which certainly doesn't hurt.

    Phantom Meanace DvD

Lucas's decision making wasn't the problem. It was his horrible writing and direction. Frankly, once they started using TPM's godawful script, very little could have saved the movie. The bad casting certainly didn't help, but the real fault with the movie was the cringe-worthy dialogue, the...

    OGL; Is it working?

I think you're vastly overestimating the amount of competition WotC actually has from OGL companies. If 4e isn't open, the amount of competition would drop even further. The gains from litigating this would be, at best marginal, and probably not worth the bad press it would create. I suspect...

    Constantine-type character

The Archivist is available in full here. It really is almost perfect for the comic book Constantine. The only thing it lacks is the Bluff skill, but if you take one level of Rogue and the Able Learner feat (from races of destiny), you get all the sneaky underhanded skills you need.

    M&M 2nd - No ability mods to Attack/Defense?

It's a point-buy system. Most high-dexterity characters will also buy a high defense, and those that don't will no doubt have a good reason for it.

Which class would you want to be?

Join the army, kill people and take their stuff, so you can get better at your skills and learn to cast higher level spells. Just like D&D. :D

    What class would you be?

In the "What Class would you want to be?" thread, Stormborn had the great observation: In the poll, if you'd be multiclassed, choose the class that is primary. I suspect that, with all the bookish people and techies we have, there'll be a lot of wizards and artificers. I'd definitely be a...

Which class would you want to be?

Of the core classes in the poll, I chose Cleric (with the Travel domain so I can fly and teleport, and either the spell or charm domains, depending on what access I'll have to wizard spellbooks). As tempting as the fun spells of the sorcerer, wizard, and druid are, the ability to cure all sorts...

    If you were to make a core d20 system . . .

For a generic system, mine would be awfully close to Mutants and Masterminds 2e. I'd make a few tweaks here and there, mostly to make the game more suitable for non-superheroic genres (like allowing finer gradations of human-scaled movement, a few new feats, and some feat/power packages that...

Has anyone tried Psionics in an AU/AE game?

I disagree about the damage and buffing potential. The main advantage that XPH damage powers have over D&D powers is the ability to choose the elemental type, which AU casters also have. Plus, the lack of automatic scaling of damage is even more weak compared to AU casters, considering their...

    "1-shot" Games

Since I'll be running a M&M one-off shortly, I guess my choice to run is M&M. :D Actually, that would probably also be my choice of one to play, though anything creative and high-concept appeals to me as well. The superhero genre is especially good for one-offs, because the source material is...

What is the best magic system?

Ars Magica, when combines with the supplement The Mysteries, is the best, both in game mechanical execution and magical flavor. The Mysteries adds real medieval theories of magic, mystery cults based on occult history and folklore which teach mystical secret lore, adding a tremendous amount of...

What d20 author do you buy sight-unseen?

Steve Kenson (regardless of what it is) and Monte Cook (if the topic of the book interests me).

    M&M 2nd Edition: Underwhelmed?

I don't understand comments like this. M&M2e is still extraordinarily customizable. With the book you can create 99.99% of all power effects you'll even want to create, just using the existing powers, modified by extras, flaws, power feats, and drawbacks when neccessary. It's no different...

PA, Philadelphia area looking for group

We seem to be going in circles here. Why doesn't everyone who's interested in gaming email or message me with their email addresses, then I'll send out an email to everyone, and we can discuss when we'll meet.

OotS 242: Haley and Jaka walk into a room...

The Roach, because it makes no sense, but then making no sense is what the Roach does, so it all makes sense. Um... Though I could see a major plot point arising about V, because of V's ambiguous gender.

    Gaming stores in Paris

There are a few in the latin quarter, in the 5th arrondisment. I don't remember what streets they're on, but Jeux Descartes (a games store kittycorner from the Cluny museum) has a decent selection of RPGs in their basement. There are also two stores named Starplayer (IIRC), one of which has...

Northern Crown: Which Volume is a Must-Buy?

If you're not planning on using the D20 stats (I'd use True20 instead), is the New World Adventures book still the best one to get?

Is Mutants and Masterminds really as versatile as I've heard?

M&M already can do this for attacks, with feats. The Attack Focus feat gives you +1 to either ranged or melee attacks, but not both. The Attack Specialization feat gives you +2 to a single attack type. If you define each class of weapon as a single attack type, it works well. So essentially...
