Thanks. Sometimes I forget the original point of this mega-thread was to rag on trad-leaning players in their own forum.

Never said you did either of those things. But not doing either is IMO required for people with different opinions about the same topic to get along in civil discourse.

So it's ok for me not to like something you like, but it's not ok for me to explain why I don't like it? That seems strange to me.

Not true. You're welcome to enjoy or not enjoy any style of gaming you want. Just don't try to claim objective superiority of what you prefer, or think that gaming culture should change to suit you, and everyone should get along fine.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

Why would you say that? You are representing those in-fiction abilities as game mechanics.

Given the amount of complaining about trad GMs (and trad GM playstyles) from the Narrativists on this thread, I really don't find my question all that bizarre.

They seemed to weather that ok.

I wasn't referring to the game system, just the events that occurred as you explained them. Had those events occurred in that way in my game, I would have a problem with it, because I don't play games where those events as they occurred are perfectly fine, like MHR. You obviously do play such...

So having that opinion making you "conservative" and "exhausting"?

Well, to be fair they don't want it earlier, they want it not four months late, particularly for no reason relating to the product they intended to purchase.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

Depends on what the ability does, don't you think? If the ability in-fiction isn't "balanced", why would the mechanic representing it in game be?

Ok. The GM can still be wrong by: 1. Violating the social contract. Did your objection make any difference to the statement expressed?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

Why assume a PC thing thing would be superior to an NPC version of that thing?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

Why would such a thing need to be balanced against other features. Mechanical balance isn't some kind of objective requirement.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

Setting logic is the issue, not double standards. If the spell thing isn't restrictive enough, I'd rather change that.

Downtime weapon training can fix the halberd problem.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

There's at least one Trek novel from the '90s that confirmed it (as much as a novel can confirm anything).

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

Your discussion of trap options. To me, the most important thing is provide adequate simulation of the in-fiction effect. If doing so results in a less fun experience, then the player should avoid going through the in-fiction process to acquire that effect. Of course, generally speaking I would...
