    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

Come now. A full medusa is not a PC in my game. Neither is a dragon, or a balor. NPCs and PCs using similar rules applies when they are supposed to be fictionally similar.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

Not a big fan of the "PCs are just better than other people" theory. To each their own.

Well, hit points are in a way the original meta currency. If I have to use I might as well have them work for me. At least the players aren't generally spending them directly.

I've always liked the idea that "damage" to your hit points is no more than scratches, grazes, smallish cuts, bruises, and burns, shock, and the like until you hit zero. At that point, once someone checks on you it is determined how badly you're actually injured. Of course, that doesn't solve...

PCs can cast Flesh to Stone. There's a Medusa heritage in Level Up too.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

Shadowdark is a great game. I've been having a lot of fun with it lately.

Wizards of the Coast Reveals Revised Eberron Species Details

I'm not sure game mechanics are exactly the priority in this situation.

A principle I will fight as much as I need to in my own games.

Anything that puts them closer to an appropriately-leveled PC is worth looking at in my book.

I have a physical copy of the corebook, and I've seen many of the supplements.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

You could try Level Up's Adept if you want a monk alternative. It's a broader class but allows for the same class fantasy.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

I prefer Level Up's Combat Maneuvers. A lot more variety, and they're available to some degree to most classes.

D&D 5E (2024) Skill Mastery as an idea

I use them constantly. Really makes you feel like you know something specific. I allow folks to get a skill specialty in a non-proficient skill too (so they get the +1d4 but not the proficiency bonus), to represent a special facility. Like have a specialty in smell or hearing but no particular...

Agreed. I'd rather put in the work and have NPCs that don't have weird mechanics PCs can't match (and vice versa, of course).

I lost all my old sim-trending friends years ago, some to moving away, personal reasons (or both), or sadly passing away. I only get to talk about this stuff online now.

Did you have a system in mind? My wife and I would be down for that.

I own MERP and I like it quite a bit. There's really no chance to get anyone I know to play it with me, however.

    I was wrong. Nevermind.

Not sure what you mean by pulp adventure. What games focus on that?

I liked the idea of disease being curable in a magical, cure-all fashion existing only at 9th level or above. I apparently misunderstood the rule.
