    They're especially good against solos.

Anyone else out there with rule overload?

I don't think too many options as far as classes go is a real problem. Your party is still only going to have five classes in it, who cares if it's five classes out of a choice of fifty or five classes out of a choice of ten? You still only need to know the rules for the classes you (or your...

    D&D 4E Worst Monsters in 4e

I like the flying zombie that gets -5 to its attacks whenever it flies. Did I mention it has a special flying attack? What a well-planned monster!

Two Player Pen and Paper Games

Your link doesn't actually say anything about how the GM Emulation works.

D&D 4E Balista, catapult and cannon damage in 4E?

Seconding a call for the use of DMG page 42 for their damage. They shouldn't be instant-death - it would make for rubbish adventures if your character died due to a single attack roll you couldn't prevent - but you shouldn't get to a situation where Brave Sir Tristram has fifty ballista bolts...

    D&D 4E 4e Paper?

Agh, don't use that paper! I've already smeared my Monster Manual 3!

D&D 4E The 4E combat poll: grind and more!

The trouble with minions is that they're very dependent on the powers your party have. Auto-damage stuff like Rain of Steel or just area attacks in general will utterly destroy them, but parties without may find their damage output overwhelming - their attack bonuses tend to be pretty good, and...

    General Monster Manual 3 Thread

Well, it's because a lot of the rubbish stuff TSR put out was ignored by everyone. I've yet to meet someone who actually used that table in second ed that modified your AC based on what kind of weapon was being used on you, but we don't hold it against them because... nobody used it. While 4e is...

No update to Monster Builder this month?

I'd love for them to update the old monsters as well...

Would you repurchase MM1 and MM2?

Possibly a "Players Compendium" containing the rules from all PHBs and splatbooks together, so a player making a bard doesn't need to have Arcane Power and the PHB2 open at the same time.

Would you repurchase MM1 and MM2?

How about one gigantic tome containing all three books entirely updated? I'd love a million page compendium I could blow the dust off.

    D&D 4E I'm here 4e and left wondering....

To be honest, a lot of the errata is stuff any half-decent DM would have ruled out on their own if they encountered it anyway - wizards giving any monster a -12 to its saving throws (making them literally impossible), guys using a feature from the "Daggermaster" paragon path for the sole purpose...

Newbie DM question: how much to reveal about the monsters?

Then why do it? I only tell players about monster powers when the monster uses them. "Oh, you missed the goblin, he uses a power that lets him shift a square. There we go." No play grinding to a halt or anything. I'll paraphrase the history entries for monsters if someone makes a check, but...

"I tuck the sunrod in my belt".

Sunrods are easily houseruled out of the game if you like the misery of tracking a moving light-source every turn. Nothing says "heroic adventure" like a -5 penalty to attack for not book-keeping correctly!

First Impressions from the D&D 4E "Test Drive"

For the love of god, leave out the controller. They're far and away the weakest role.

First Impressions from the D&D 4E "Test Drive"

Speaking of wizard dailies, did anyone else notice that Flaming Sphere is a million times better than all the other level 1 dailies?

What D&Disms have you never liked?

In this then, we are 100% in agreement. But it's obvious why they do this - they don't want to lose the "elf crowd" if they say "There are absolutely no elves in Dark Sun". Instead they'll say, "If you play an elf in Dark Sun, you can do this with them." But I get the annoyance.

    Let's have a quickie! The 50g Houserule.

Don't really like this houserule. One of my favourite things about 4e is NOT having to track all of the minutiae of adventuring life, like ammunition, bedrolls and so forth. Are there really GMs out there who are like, "AHA! But you CAN'T light a fire because you neglected to buy a flint and...
