What does it take for an RPG to die?

For me, I typically thought of an RPG as being dead when it was no longer in print. But what does it mean to be out of print in the age of PDFs? I have easier access to AD&D's Oriental Adventures today than I did in 1994. Now I think of an RPG as dead when no new books are being published for...

    Old Games Show and Tell

I used to play a lot of World of Warcraft and my main character was a Warrior/Engineer. This is when he built the engineer mount. I played some Star Wars: The Old Republic as well. If you haven't played, the game allowed you to have four body types for characters allowing you to choose...

    Overrated/Underrated Geek Media

When I watched Alien: Romulus that was the thought running through my head about pretty much the entire cast. The oldest principle actor was the guy who played Andy the Android (sorry, synthetic person), and he was 30. Most of the rest of the cast were closer to 20 than they were to 30. The...

D&D 5E (2024) Eye Tyrant. Who Died and Made You Gygax?? Design Your Own D&D 2024X3.

This is the tough part. I honestly don't know what I could do to make more money as I don't really understand why D&D is so successful in recent years. Was it the 2014 rules? Was it COVID? Was it Stranger Things and other media? If I get to reshape it. I'd get rid of Bonus Actions. I'd...

For video games, there are certain milestones some games reach that really wow me. Doom, Doom 2, Duke Nuke'em 3-D, and Half-Life were all games that wowed me when they were released. I remember in Half-Life I shot at a soldier and he ducked behind some cover and it absolutely wowed me. From...

How Much Do You Care About Novelty?

Here's the rub. If something weird or innovative becomes popular then it just becomes the norm. D&D was a weird and innovative game way back in 1974. Deadlands, a mash up of old west tropes with wizards, mad scientists, and samurai was pretty weird in 1996. It was even called The Weird West...

    Trailer Tron Ares trailer

Ditto. Except I was in elementary school. There's nothing quite so cute as as bunch of seven year old boys throwing plastic frisbees at one another's faces as hard as we could. I also haven't seen any Tron movies since the original. The soundtrack pops up on my YouTube occasionally and it...

I knew you'd say that. Why did you punch my inner child right in the face? I'm never going to let myself be vulnerable with you ever again!

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

So this is my first negative comment about a product. This Army Painter Vampire Red has about the worse cover I’ve ever seen. When I applied a coat onto the flag, it worked more like a glaze. I’ll stress here this is the old Army Painter formula which has since been updated.

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

It’s funny how laying a base coat transforms a mini. All I did was base coat the cloth with Dark Sky from Army Painter and suddenly it looks so much better.

D&D General Transgender Drow are Canon in Forgotten Realms! Woo!

I've always argued D&D as designed features player characters with a very modern mindset. Freedom of religion, association, due process, equality under the law, etc., etc. are things we associate with good kingdoms or oligarchies. D&D really doesn't require or encourage us to adopt a different...

Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

It’s been a while since I’ve done any batch painting. This is half a box of skeletons from Games Workshop. Batch painting is kind of a two edged sword. On one hand it can get rather tedious painting so many miniatures to look like they belong to a cohesive unit. But on the other hand it can...
