Right back at you. Agree to disagree then.

You expect them to be a solid part of D&D culture in a way they've never been before? How and why do you expect that, and what difference does it make at all to you at tables where you don't play? And I use transparently-visible house rules regularly.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

Sounds like the issue here is a jerk player.

Oh well? I'm sorry, but IMO don't play with people you don't trust (from either direction). You can rail against this all you want, but for me that's how it is.

Apparently a number of posters feel none of those responsibilities count unless the book codifies them as explicit requirements that have to be followed or...else, I guess?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

Exploration is more important in my game (and Level Up's rule changes and additions help considerably in that regard), as are things like downtime and social stuff. It's really not as hard for me as you're making out, but then we don't really play the same game. Also, hated 4e for a lot of...

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

That's actually how we do it. Specifically, at the beginning of the campaign I call in my daughter and ask her to roll up a set of stats for everyone to use. It seems to be a good compromise.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

You have to either stop thinking of it in those terms, or you have to do the work to make NPCs make sense. My brain doesn't allow for the first option, much.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

This is a great reason to keep rolling for stats over point buy. There's no shrine for the latter at my table.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

I think that just about everything in most games is too PC centric.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Well there you go. You're not denying the arguments of others so much as just stating your preference. That's excellent!

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Different base game. I'm not basing it's power level on 5.0 or 5.5, just comparing it to itself. Also I was explaining why power creep can be a problem, not saying power creep in 5.5 is a problem for me. And the nature of new abilities is important. In Level Up many abilities add granularity and...

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

In order for the magic energy to be a greatsword, it has to emulate the qualities of a greatsword. Weight is a quality.

D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Because eventually the power levels across the board causes the game to move out of one's comfort zone, potentially, and make the experience less fun.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

Absolutely it depends on the system. That's where the "I think" comes in, because my games do what can be practically done to avoid PC superiority.

Awesome! Very much looking forward to this.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

But a similarly skilled NPC should be about on par mechanically with that PC, I believe. That's what I'm talking about. The fourth level character isn't better because they're a PC.

D&D General Weapon Mastery - Yea or Nay?

Sure. Lots of Level Up's combat maneuvers are stances, for example.

Maybe make sure your bladelock has a high enough Strength score? Why is this a problem?
