D&D General Did 5e 2024 Not meet the economic goals set, and if not, why not?

Schedule permitting I am down with that. IM me if you please.

Studio Agate Takes Over 7th Sea From Chaosium

I in no way remained loyal to 7th Sea once 2e was released, or L5R once AEG sold it to Fantasy Flight. In both cases the setting and the mechanics changed far too much IMO for them to feel like the same games, and went in directions I didn't care for in any case. That's ok. I still have all my...

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

I don't play games where I wouldn't want them, except supers. And even there, I can see a case for it.

Ah, and now I don't like it again.

I'm not paying $150 for it, no. My version of 5e works best for me, thank you.

Popularity is a counterpoint to logic? Not on my watch.

    Sounds like fun to me.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

In games, I prefer things to happen to a degree of likelihood that is consistent with setting logic. In many cases, that is approximate with reality, while allowing for all the supernatural or science fiction exceptions my games enjoy. I am willing to push this approximation to allow for a...

Well, I like specific Injuries being possible, and long-lasting.

    Congratulations. We've found a change in 5.5 I like.

No (more's the pity), and they continue to go farther away from the idea.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

I want more realistic healing (and damage) than I usually get.

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

I treat stories and games as different animals. For stories, the point is that in context the events could happen, not that they're likely to.

    D20 test is a 5.5 term yes?

    Realistic Combat that's Simple(ish)

In my games, if the rules conflict with the fiction, nine times out of ten the fiction wins. That tenth time mostly has to do with knock-on effects, and even then I'm willing to look into adjusting rules after the game.

What Is Your Go-To Pick-Up TTRPG?

I don't usually do pick up games, but at this point I think I'd try Shadowdark. I've never run it, but I've played and it seems very familiar. Easy to play, fast to make characters for (a major factor in pick up games), and most scenarios are small and enclosed, easy for PCs to make decisions...

I would say the same is true of Gamism, or Narrativism. Preferences that get in the way of the result being a good game/narrative are at odds with the Gamist/Narrativist approach.

So what? Seriously, in what way does that make any difference here?

Does DW say anything about the MC having free reign to change the rules to better suit the game they want to run if they want and make the game their own?
