D&D 5E (2014) How Do You Feel About the Rate of New WotC Game Content for 5E DMs?

I am very upset that they tried to teach new players how to DM rather than reinforcing the playstyle I've honed on my own for two decades to the point that I don't need the same instructions about it and thus wouldn't have bought to product anyway. But no, seriously guys: Arms and Equipment...

And updated the apparent 'default' setting you can do anything with to reflect the playable default species that didn't exist when the setting was first invented as existent demographics. They made the default the default. The shame. The horror.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

A castle is a massive place of work. Yes, the inner keep and chambers (if they even exist) may be closed off, but they were constantly having people go in and out. It is entirely unreasonable to assume someone who just says they're going to the castle will be breaking in. On might even say...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Maybe we should just leave twisting words into the worst possible result for genie wishes or even better, never. They expressed their intent, said nothing about breaking in, walking through walls, any of this other stuff. They said they 'went to the castle' or 'went into the castle', a thing...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

Imagine the size of the crater in the place Deberes would be if they tried to price-fix in the world where that affected how you could cast spells. Bat guano is free.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

"I go into the castle to talk to the king" Options for Response: "Okay, so the guards stop you at the entrance to the keep and ask your business." or "Tell me exactly how or you will be stabbed" Yup. I'm the one in bad faith.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Ah, so it's not a castle but a spite rectangle built to make a point that only one person at the table gets to try to be a smartass about someone saying they're going to talk to the king.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I can't imagine seeing the entirety of my world-building for my setting; the two million words written, the two decades of lore not only from me but as a result of previous groups creating new places and concepts, the research and consideration I put into it... as lesser or 'inconsistent'...

D&D 5E (2024) Should full casters and Monks have one weapon mastery?

No. No. A thousand times no! The casters have taken so much from martials, let them have this trickle of a thing to themselves.

I turn toward the entrance. I move my left foot in front of my right. I put my right foot in front of my left. I continue this sequence until I am inside the entrance, rolling a DEX check at each step to ensure I do not fall over in the process. Being a functional castle outside of wartime...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

How long do we have to wait for them to no longer be 'new'? Dragonborn and Teiflings have been core for 15 years and in the game longer with tieflings being from the 90's. Goliaths have been around for 20.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Thank you for the explanation. I'm someone who prefers to homebrew and takes settings apart for useful inspiration, so I'm the opposite: I don't have a lot of need for maps and names, I'm looking for hooks and lore ideas and grand setpieces. That's why I find the vagueness people speak of the...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

If you aren't looking for a story, what kind of backdrop are you looking for then? From where I stand, the story, the locations, the ideas present in the setting is the backdrop. Without the story, I don't even know what is left of a setting.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

So far and away, people were making and aware of other campaign settings, so 'it was the first' wouldn't be an excuse then if the setting was considered the originator of all the tropes and nothing that remained unique, yeah?

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Yes. I repeatedly am citing @Stuart Kerrigan on that point, but also mentioning how this thread is a rare occurrence where that happens where the praises aren't 'you have half an excuse to ban the non-Tolkien stuff', which is happening all the time otherwise. Like I'm actively pointing out that...

D&D 5E (2024) Kobold Press posts 2024 DMG Hit Piece

I'd say 'let them fight', but that sorry amount of shade isn't really up to par with Wendy's' twitter account. Or even Steam'ums. 'Our book has slightly more things and can't afford the filler that's been in basically every D&D-alike RPG ever'. Why even bother taking the swing? Did we not have...

They don't have to instruct them. They just hem and haw about whatever BS numbers until those numbers go up. and how do you make the numbers go up real fast without any thought to the future and absolutely zero understanding or thought toward efficiency? Yearly layoffs

Hasbro Hit With Layoffs, Wizards of the Coast Impacted

There is a reason why it [was] illegal to bribe people. 'You took my money, now do as I say' is not an admirable position. It's a loan shark of mafioso's position. That's not what fiduciary responsibility was meant to be, it's what it was corrupted and mutilated into.

Because nostalgia bait. I said they could have. If you're not going to use the actual setting, why reference it in a generic way? No one has to pull a Star Wars fan's teeth to get them to say thing one about what's great about Star Wars. They tell people. They discuss it. They don't actively...
