D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Yes. I'm advocating for everyone participating in the game having a say in the rules they are playing by. And also, actually allowing players to make decisions for their PCs instead of being forced to comply to one player's aesthetics.

If there wasn't why would I need the qualifier supreme? The DM sets up the story and plays the world. They don't get to make choices for other players' characters, not ignore the will of the other players. They are a discussion leader, but shouldn't have veto power.

Only so many people skip the 'discuss later' because they are the great and special 'final arbiter'.

My favorite excuse though is 'I'm doing this specific Earth-based setting that is absolutely not in Ireland, but somehow I'm not banning the daoine sidhe we call elves.'

Yeah, I've seen spite worlds multiple times. "Bob plays X all the time, I don't like X, so in this world, I'm banning X so I don't have to see X. I do not care about Bob's preferences except where they mildly annoy me'. Then when called on it, this suddenly becomes some kind of artistic...

And none of those are implied by 'master'. Again, I know what that's supposed to mean, but in this very thread, I constantly see examples of people who are absolutely using it to imply supreme authority.

That would be the problem, yes. Right now, they default understanding of 'Rule 0' is the toxic horrible one that needs to go away forever.

We've always played it that way in general. But in a group where everyone has DM'd, some people in the group don't get to DM anymore because they took the older versions to heart and make the game miserable trying to impose their 'vision'.

Which is why I'm good with the new version. It makes it clear this is a collaborative game and people are just going to have to learn to collaborate to play this collaborative game.

The intent is still there and still gross to me. Like it gets a pass for general use, but when someone straight up tries to explain to me that Dungeon Master means they're the master here... yeah bye. Because I'm not the other thing no matter how much the game loves that as a point of lore for...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Either way, it's pretty clear that there are some interesting and unique things in GH and I'm still confused as to why that seems to be actively obfuscated in favor of trying what appears to be very hard to convince the world that it's dull as dishwater after a dinner of plain white rice.

Yeah, I'm not calling anyone 'master'. I've got six centuries of ancestors saying 'no'.

And the entire problem is that people take that as license to completely disregard everyone else at the table to further their desires or assert their authority.

I actively observe people saying this sort of thing all the time, then have people in the same thread tell me to my face that no one ever says this stuff.

Thank you again for actually providing nice things about the setting when people keep insisting on... like not for some reason.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

And that's an argument for why WotC isn't reprinting it and probably shouldn't have taken up DMG space to put it in. It is so weird to see actual fans essentially putting forward that there's nothing uniquely of value in their apparent favorite setting. Especially since from other people that's...

Continue with a canker of resentment for the entitled guy who wants to always have his own way without input from anyone else who shouldn't be in that position in the first place.
