But those other ones are a very convenient ablative shield for the people who we all know are the problem. Every thread, they get thrown up to deflect.

But you can see how this pitch just tells me that it's like all the other settings and nothing about what makes GH cool or unique, right? Same old tropes plus the same old Conan tropes that are forced in somewhere in most other settings, plus vague politics, a sinisterly names group of villains...

I refer you to all the cope about the DM still having ultimate authority. Nope. We've been getting by just fine without it. Ah, the players as a scary and dumb rabble vs the rational chad DM. Yeah, that's a healthy relationship to have in a leisure activity.

PF2 has this interesting thing where you usually use Perception, but if you can justify it, you can use other skills like Stealth. Something to consider for those thinking on using a skill-based variant.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Not a surprise that it's hard to convince people we as a community have been teaching that they're better and more deserving than everyone else at the table and should be viewed as infallible for the past 50 years to share even the tiniest sliver of control and power.

They were made in the past 30 years and aren't humans of variable height and hairiness. I don't know either. They seem to insist any new species be shackled and brainboxed to the setting they originated in because they don't 'fit' the game that's had bronze collossus mecha, goblin cowboys with...

I'd argue that's kind of the intent pre 5.5 where you needed to dedicate to healing due to anemic healing numbers. Not that I agree with that design choice, but I think it was there. That's a thought. But I feel more like classes should get initiative manipulation mechanics. Initiative in D&D...

    That would be a joke.

I feel like the way the game plays, it feels important but actually isn't. Rogues need it to get some free damage, tactics players need to act first before everyone separates themselves and makes mass effects impossible, but beyond that just stand still and hack is the order of the day and you...

It's not really that much of a bonus because as I mentioned, the only characters initiative matters for are rogues (at the start of initiative) and the few people still trying to be tactical--which casters have never needed tactics.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Holy crap, THANK YOU. That's the stuff all these threads should be talking about. Evil. Windmill. There is an evil windmill in the setting and that isn't mentioned in the first sentence and first post of every Greyhawk thread. I've been playing this game for quarter century and this is the...

The more I think about it, the more I'm liking it actually. It's actually an anti-death spiral mechanic as it gives people who took a lot of damage time to deal with that.

They invented an entire mechanic and made it the primary mechanic for everything to avoid adding 2 to a number.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

I honestly just want someone to came back and describe cool parts of the setting again. Last time it took three days for someone to tell me about the Bright Desert in a way that made it interesting. Then whenever I try to defend the setting due to that, I can only find sources designed to act a...
