D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Healing Powercreep

Wait... that's what you think plot coupons are? That's like an actual term used for items or checkpoints characters in a story need to collect to complete the plot. It has negative amounts to do with metagame elements. Anyway, this stance-stance thing makes zero sense because most games are a...

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

Good books, and also Great Expectations.

D&D General Alternate Stats for Initiative [+]

Considering how D&D initiative is all but just a d20 roll anyway and usually only matters to the rogue and any tactically minded players, I'd say each character uses their highest and gets to justify it how they will.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

But it's a pun in a language that's not even in the settings. Coppers aren't even called pennies!

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Let us not forget that magic in D&D is not only powered by a distinct lack of an economic system, but puns. You cast detect thoughts by literally paying a penny for their thoughts.

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 5.5 - the return of bespoke magical items?

Near as I can tell it's either the opposite or just what survived the centuries. The good stuff is usually called 'pulp'. And that goes way back before the 50's. I found a book on Project Gutenberg from the 1800's about cowboys fighting a metal lightning-powered ostrich. and yet they teach...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

Dude, maybe don't lead with 'economic indicators' and you might get more people willing to play.

D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Healing Powercreep

How do you assign ASIs on level up? Or all of the other non diegetic things that come up because we're playing a game and that's how playing a game works? I know, something something actor stance vs horse stance vs tough on grime stance or whatever, but sometimes a game has to be a game.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

You'd think that. But then you get a solid page of posts informing you that your opinion is your opinion and thus you shouldn't have stated it because that is bad and wrong and how pointing that out makes the person who did a superior human being and therefore all their D&D opinions correct.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Now we have to add percentages to this thing? Why is it that every 'consequence' also punishes the player with homework?

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Still hilarious that it just happens on a randomly rolled birthday and that's how the Rules As Physics edition presented it.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

I'm confused as to what my friends have been doing for the past quarter century then. We've never let the DM be the Daddy of the group who always gets their way. If there's a conflict over the game, we talk about it, maybe look up the actual rule, and come up with a solution.

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Didn't the 3e aging effects make it so your senses and cognitive facilities invariably improve as you reached your relative hundreds while your physical ability invariably degraded despite you being presumably an active badass who gets plenty of exercise, eats better than most people in the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

But to be clear: you want the game to give you rules for that? And you intend to follow those rules. How long is your prep each session?

D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Healing Powercreep

That would be how healing surges work. You may spend surges during a rest. Nothing's making you. There's also a few other things that you can spend surges on as well.

    D&D 5E (2024) Uncommon items - actually common?

So... are you expecting the game to put forth a working model for a setting economy designed in such a way to allow the players to mechanically manipulate it through their actions?

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Four years in and our Pathfinder Kingmaker custom map still has unexplored regions because wetlands are full of undead and things that cause poison and disease. The DM was really excited about the monsters (Paizo does cool monsters regardless of edition or product) but we had no desire to play...

D&D 5E (2024) The Problem with Healing Powercreep

Well, spitefully damaging your own character is an option. God knows that showed up a lot on the old WotC boards to prove things about 4e. "Look, if I ignore what the designers explicitly stated is how things are supposed to work, sometimes in a post directly about mine, things don't work...

D&D General A glimpse at WoTC's current view of Rule 0

Your post was about people not agreeing on the initial rules change, not about not compromising. Even if you intended to imply they weren't compromising, that was assuming a version of 'agreement' that involve coercion and other means of allowance that doesn't necessarily involve agreement. And...
