    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

It would probably be a bit easier with Daggerheart than 5E due to the PCs being built with backstory and connections as the default. Threatening those is a quick and easy avenue of horror. Overwhelming monsters is easy in any system, in Daggerheart just ignore the suggested combat math. The lack...

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

What distinction do you see between the two?

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

Ah. You’re using “plan” in a non-standard way. Got it.

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

They're opposites. One precludes the other by definition. If you're planning, you're not improvising. If you're improvising, you're not planning.

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

Exactly. The version I use and have seen a few times is “prep to improvise.” It encapsulates the concept wonderfully.

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

Not if you’re using the standard definitions of either improv or planning.

You’re looking for a rules lighter, fiction first, high fantasy, PbtA game? Man have you got good timing. Daggerheart is exactly that.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Well, it’s one example of the larger issue. Which is gamers trying to win, beat the system, and optimizing the fun out of the game. That’s certainly one issue, yes. But again, the problem is gamers trying to win instead of playing the game. It’s a fiction-first storytelling game. It’s about...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Someone posted this to the Daggerheart subreddit. Hadn’t heard of the channel before. It’s a great video that makes a lot of good points. I’ll be following the channel with much interest.

Check out Fate Accelerated and Fate Condensed. They’re generic and on the lighter side mechanically. There’s a whole host of PbtA games out there covering just about every genre imaginable. Teenage supers? Masks. 1970s gonzo? Spirit of 77. Monster hunting? Monster of the Week.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

You'll be a lot happier when you let go of the idea that you can control other people and their decisions.

Here’s a video about it from LegalEagle. Never thought I’d be rooting for Disney to win a copyright case.

Maybe edit some of that in to the original post. That context is relevant.

Monty of Dungeon Dudes infuriated at publishers writing own licenses instead of CC – WOTC most permissive

I get it. But it's their IP to control how they want. I agree it is absolutely wild that WotC is now (one of) the most permissive. But then they can afford to be.

D&D General Keying and how we all do it?

I generally go with a very minimalist OSR-style bullet point system. Just the facts and nothing more. I came a ross this video when it came out and really dug the idea. Haven’t tried it yet, but it sounds great.

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

Yep. I’m so bad with names generally, real life too, that I just can’t make them up on the fly. I mean I can, they’ll just suck. Bob. Bobby. Bobbie. Bobcat. Bobert. Etc. That’s why I prep the lists ahead of time and just have them in my notes. I have a habit of building random generators in...

    D&D General Zero-Prep D&D Game?

Exactly. One big reason to switch the typically proactive and reactive roles between the referee and the players. If the PCs are proactive and the referee is reactive, there’s no wrong footed happening. Just keep putting obstacles and opposition in their way. Don’t bother with a planned plot or...
