    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

You can add a complication that doesn't undermine success. The difference is one of perspective. What some gamers think of as "screw the players" is just "adding drama/excitement." It goes back to the notion of gamers optimizing the fun out of the game. They want the least amount of...

New Edition of Mutants & Masterminds Coming Soon, Playtest Launches at End of Month

M&M3E is what did me in for crunch. I played the hell out of every edition of that game and even freelanced for Green Ronin on the line. The math and crunch were just overwhelming. Chris and Co are good people and absolutely put out top-notch work.

EU Vice-president says once a video game is sold, it is owned by the customer.

It’s good to see people at least try to be decent and fair. Hope it leads to some positive change.

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

Seriously. Superman would never kill unless absolutely necessary and he’d endlessly go out of his way to save every single life he could. That’s who the character fundamentally is at his core. Thank you James Gunn for bringing back Superman.

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

Exactly. Superman showed off his power constantly during the movie. His power is basic human decency and kindness.

Right? It’s almost like Superman is depicted as an actual superhero in the film.

So it matches how stories actually work. That’s a ringing endorsement.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

On the other hand, I’m a regular CR watcher and I was so bored during the latest episode I turned it off after the first hour. Fights can be faster in Daggerheart, which is great, but they still need to be dynamic and engaging. Which this one was not. Apparently I missed the interesting bits by...

Never change gamers. Keep on complaining about everything that makes stories interesting.

Shouldn't be surprised but still disappointed.

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

It’s a perennial issue with superhero media generally and Supes specifically. The escalation problem. Anyone powerful enough to physically challenge Superman could punch cities off the map. An actual fight between them would shatter the planet. It’s why you get smart foes for Supes so often or...

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

Exactly. Whatever the flaws in the details of the movie, Superman as an empathetic hero out to save lives has finally made a comeback. The fact that opening weekend is pointing to utterly trouncing the Snyder anti-hero version is vindicating.

New Edition of Mutants & Masterminds Coming Soon, Playtest Launches at End of Month

I’m honestly hoping they go much more rules light and abstract across the board. I doubt they will, but who knows. I just can’t go back to a dense and crunchy system at this point. Gimme something where I can write down “Green Lantern,” make a few picks, and be ready to play in 5-10 minutes...

What are you reading in 2025?

Yep. There are always readers. Some kids go through a phase of reading then stop, others become lifetime readers. It takes all kinds. Comics, graphic novels, manga, light novels, short stories, novels...horror, sci-fi, classic literature, poetry, history, cookbooks...doesn't matter. Just read...

What are you reading in 2025?

That's always been the crux for me. Being forced to do anything sucks. Especially something enjoyable like reading. I didn't appreciate any of the stuff I was forced to read in junior high or high school until years later, and then it was only a select few books and short stories. Most things I...

What are you reading in 2025?

I like some art that confused me. But I prefer that confusion to come from within the story rather than the language itself. Like Finnegan’s Wake. It famously begins mid sentence, ends in the middle of that same sentence (making the novel a loop), and has what…no puntuation in between. Or...
