D&D 5E (2014) Can you use dueling and TWF at the same time? I think you can RAW.

Seems like a lot of extra work for a little bit of damage. I'd say eat the lack of duelist +2 for a round that is generating 2d6 per hit or just find a different way to use the ba for an attack.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reworking Protection

I'd say it is. Damage and attack boost are linear where AC scales on two fronts so it can quickly get silly if your not careful. protection is +1 AC and it's a big difference in the long run.

D&D 5E (2014) the shield warrior - better than some think?

It can be great but it takes a set of circumstances that usually cost more than it's worth. You need 3+ attacks, over 60% hit (with the penalty), advantage, and the mobility/positioning to make it shine.

D&D 5E (2014) the shield warrior - better than some think?

Yea slight mismatch of flavor and mechanics with those 2 lol.

D&D 5E (2014) How many official subclasses are there in 5E?

Depends on how you define warlocks double path subclass but between 115 and 130.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reworking Protection

Hmm I wonder if you just rolled protection and interception into a single reaction? You grant disadvantage and if it still hits you reduce the damage. Probably fix the scaling a little bit other than that it's a flavor win that doesn't make it harder to use.

D&D 5E (2014) the shield warrior - better than some think?

Aye. One handed weapons, with or without shield, tend to be greatly undervalued in the current meta. Side effect of the HP buffering that happens around lv 11 where it just starts climbing so damage boosters are held in high regard. The thing a lot ppl miss is the gap that is gained by spending...

    D&D 5E (2014) Reworking Protection

True but fighting styles are simple by nature. If you wanted to modify it to be more useful then I'd say move it to be more akin to runic shield so the user can decide to use it after the roll has been determined to be a hit/miss/critical. It's the timing that kills it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on a skills PC.

Skill monkey isn't something that actually exists outside the meta. Same with all the other party roles that people force into a game that doesn't support them. Trying to define a true*anything* is pointless. This goes double for a game that doesn't even have a skill system in place. It's just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on a skills PC.

Eh. Being skilled to not have little to do with the overall identity of a PC. Most adventurer are generally adept at a lot of stuff so it's just an expansion of that. It's not a niche in the same way damage isn't. Everyone should have the ability to chip in to increase the chances of success.

    D&D 5E (2014) Reworking Protection

I just rolled protection and defense into a single option.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on a skills PC.

Lol that was supposed to say have not but let's give it a shot. The base class gets 2 skills with an additional one at 3 and 10, and advantage on str checks with rage. Not much here. So let's add in a subclass. Wild magic gets you some utility magic radar at first and some random stuff to fill...

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on a skills PC.

The only class that I have is successfully be able to make a full-blown skill monkey out of is the barbarian and even they have a interesting little niche if you don't mind some finagling If you look at the basic premise of what you need to be good at ability checks it boils down to: a decent...

D&D 5E (2014) New Unearthed Arcana Today: Giant Themed Class Options and Feats

As always ASI vs feat will depend on multiple factors like additional class/subclass features drawing off modifiers or specific feat/feature interactions like alert and bugbear

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on a skills PC.

I'm obsessed with utility concepts lol. I think 99% of the stuff I have laying around for when I get to get out from behind the screen is focused on anything and everything besides the minimum for damage. I'm a forever DM. I get to roll big numbers all the time lol. Adds another star spawn...

D&D 5E (2014) How long are you willing to wait for a build to "turn on?"

Something I've used I the past is a weighted scale for stuff I see as central to a concept I want to create. If it's available lv 1-4 it has full value. 5-10 is 1/2 value, 10-15 is 1/4 , and 15-20 is 1/10. Obviously value is subjective but it helps keep everything in perspective when Im...

    D&D 5E (2014) All character races are Medium-sized...why?

More of a response to the lack of DM support in 5e. Players can only work within the limits of the DM's adjudication skill.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thoughts on a skills PC.

Best is going to depend on your tables style of game but most PCs have plenty of room for non damage stuff. What it actually sounds like is you want a PC who excels at gathering and understanding information. Ability (skills) can help here but honestly a fine comb through the spells and class...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e consequence-resolution

Agree that removing a little of the swing from the D20 helps checks out a lot. I personally use a 3D20 system where you need 2 passes and -/+ 1 die for advantage/disadvantage. It favors moderate to good modifiers rather than maxing them out. Your rules do make a little more sense in context of...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e consequence-resolution

I don't see it. By nature off adding a do or die to checks you are going to make sure you have the highest possible modifiers and avoid attempting anything outside of the stuff you specifically built for. The D20 is just too random otherwise. I like the idea of players making decisions in...
