D&D General Who “owns” a PC after the player stops using them?

I feel like when they stop showing up at the game they have abandoned the game and by default the character. It's hard to own something in a world you don't play in. Nothing keeping you from hanging on to your copy of the player and doing other things with it though.

D&D General Who “owns” a PC after the player stops using them?

if you abandon property it can be claimed by others and then it becomes theirs. At least in most countries in the world. I'd argue same thing applies with characters. If you abandon the game then the property (character) can be destroyed or claimed. Doubt we'll ever agree here but int he...

D&D 5E (2014) Guns and D&D - are we doing it wrong? An alternative

I don't know. If someone with more resources is the bad guy sneaking onto their ship and exploding their powder would be heroic. Unless heroic is being defined as only face to face combat. In which case you've just defined Wizards, priests and all spell casters as unheroic.

D&D 5E (2014) Guns and D&D - are we doing it wrong? An alternative

Thing is if you are staying with muskets and early cannons then they aren't much better than siege weapons and crossbows. In fact they load slower. If we are worried about not doing guns right then longbows have been screwed since 1st edition and a longbow should do the damage a sword does...

AI is stealing writers’ words and jobs…

From Science Daily. "The people who made LLMs call it "hallucinating" when they make things up; although Chemero says, "it would be better to call it 'bullsh*tting,'" because LLMs just make sentences by repeatedly adding the most statistically likely next word -- and they don't know or care...

The Rise And Fall Of Evil Genius Games

Well the chance of changing their opinion if you don't is exactly zero. Also I don't really understand how you educate people on how to identify the bad stuff if you don't spend the time contradicting it, engaging with people and trying to change it.

AI is stealing writers’ words and jobs…

so the big issue now is the AI bots (though smart scripting bot's is a better term. they aren't really AI) were all trained using data scraped from the internet using Fair Use Doctrine. Now the issue is the Bots aren't smart enough to not violate copyright law or other intellectual property...

Spoilers Avatar The Last Airbender live-action [SPOILERS]

I thought the first 4 worked very well even though the were cramming multiple episodes per episode it seemed to flow well. loved it up to the island. After the island the pacing gets wonky and and feels way off. I feel like they needed about 3 or 4 more episodes to make the pacing work...

D&D 5E (2024) Things You Think Would Improve the Game That We WON'T See

or monks could have access to ki or magical powers that give them stoneskin, ironskin etc as they level. But it needs to be something like rage powers that can be used a lot not just a few times a day like spells.

D&D 5E (2024) Things You Think Would Improve the Game That We WON'T See

Magic needs to be wiped and completely redone. We can keep the vancian leveling if the sacred cow is too big but we need to go back to each type of caster has thier own spell list that the Devs can keep appropriately powered per level and quit giving everyone access to everyone elses spells...

Level Up (A5E) You don't hate exploration, you hate survival

well only rewarding what you the DM feels is important is everything we've talked about that tends to go wrong with Milestone Leveling. Experience comes from everything you do or it's just a railroad.

Level Up (A5E) You don't hate exploration, you hate survival

Of course when magic items weren't passe and bad they were a good way to reward players. Awarding XP happens for unimportant things too when the party decides to go the wrong way, refuses to do the main quest and does a side quest or just jacks around in town and gets crossways with the...

Level Up (A5E) You don't hate exploration, you hate survival

true but we have a three generations of trophy kids who all got trophies when they lost playing D&D now. I suspect that's the reason for the focus only on group rewards.

Level Up (A5E) You don't hate exploration, you hate survival

I agree resource's mean nothing in 5e. Short and long rests being codified broke what was left of resources mattering. i've more than once called 5e the "anime version" of D&D

Level Up (A5E) You don't hate exploration, you hate survival

simply poking back exactly the way you did. your words. "An awful lot of people play survival video games, where food/water keep you from not dying. They seem to be having fun." For the record if they love it more power to them. I simply posted my opinion of it. your the one...

Level Up (A5E) You don't hate exploration, you hate survival

Problem with getting upset with someone presenting opinion as objective proof is there is no way for you to actually tell if they view it as objective or subjective. I think the majority post thier opinions from thier own subjective view. Probably healthier to assume that's what's being done...

Level Up (A5E) You don't hate exploration, you hate survival

an awf the statement an awful lot is personal and subjective. give me some numbers of survival games vs MMO's, RPG's and first person shooters then it'll mean something.

D&D 5E (2014) Boon Ideas for a God of Maintaining Cultural Norms and Resistance to Change

well if we are talking the hebrew bible we are talking apples vs oranges and since the King James version was codified impossible to square with each other.
