I think the idea was always that the evil dragons felt mortals were so far beneath them that taking thier form was disgusting and a sign of weakness.

i prefer a set form as the humanoid form. I would give a PC a set form if I let them have an inborn shapeshifting ability letting the dragon have more than that seems excessive.

no agility is enhanced by strength is enhanced by dexterity......same thing with wisdom, intelligence. But it's not real world and we have our simple game yard sticks so that doesn't matter.

Yeah Move snow/water seems like the way to go. then you just limit it to how many pounds of snow you can move and how far you can move it.

Honestly no matter how the table runs, there aren't enough DM's and most who don't want to DM aren't going to argue too much with those who do. They just want to play and generally you play the game offered or you find another. Only on D&D forums do people rant and rave about it.

I'll say this. None of the friends I have playing it play D&D the way BG does. I wouldn't play it that way.

I see a lot of effort on forums to balance encounters other than 4e (from what I hear) i haven't seen any actual balancing. 5e just flipped it the the other way and made D&D Anime, 3rd edition by the designers own words didn't care about balance and 3.5 was an attempt to reel in the Whale so...

I don't think any edition changed the paradigm. Seems about the same to me now in 5e as it did in 1e.

I've seen people play druids that way and if they want to it's fine. We can't even get senior members of churches in real life to agree with each other. Why can't druid be the same.
