Are you sure you're playing D&D? I've never once seen a group of adventurers stop searching just because they found the McGuffin. There is usually more loot to be found, every inch of the dungeon must be examined carefully!

Those traditions have endured countless other new and innovative games entering the market with new ways to play. I don't think this time will be different.

My impression is that most gamers want a game rather than a collaborative world-building exercise, so Daggerheart isn't really competing in the same segment as D&D. That's not to say Daggerheart isn't going to be successful. There's probably a lot of gamers who do want a more story-focused...

Critical Role is in the "steaming entertainment" business, not the tabletop gaming industry. They may be publishing an RPG but the actual business is something else.

There's a slight issue that WotC is the biggest and best paying company in the tabletop RPG space. So if you want to advance your career by switching jobs you need to move to another industry.
