    D&D 5E (2024) We’ll be merging the One D&D and D&D forums shortly

We'll have to see what labels they end up using now that those kids get to live through an edition change. Will they care about the differences enough to use a different name, or not?

If 3.5 should properly have been called 4e, does that make this year's books 7e?

Why do you think the 3.5 label was egrerious marketing?

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

I'm fairly certain Tasha is going to be one of the 3 archmages. She's probably the most well known wizard in 5e since she has a player-facing book named after her, she's already appeared in a 5 adventure, and she's the only woman among the really famous wizards. WotC is going to want both...

Sorry, but the 21 years since 3.5 isn't "only a few years"....

I could see them doing both. One team works on a BG3 DLC while others start producing BG4. Or they could do neither and instead make Divinity 3. It's also possible Larian could license out the BG3 engine, like how Black Isle made the Icewind Dales and Planescape: Torment using the engine...

I bet Larian could make a Baldurs Gate 4 in 2-3 years if they used the BG3 engine with only minor changes. They have the technical side down, they've got a gameplay formula that works, so it's mainly a matter of cranking out content, and that can largely be done in paralell by multiple teams at...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Because they specifically want to hire only 3 archmages for this job. Hasbro isn't doing so well, they can't afford unlimited archmages.

All of those are Forgotten Realms adventures. Inspired by some old content made for other settings, but not based on it. Saltmarsh on the other hand, is by default set in Greyhawk, with guidelines to place the story in other settings if the DM wants.

Could we possibly come up with a different abbreviation for these clowns* ? To me. "EGG" is always going to be "E. Gary Gygax" (*No offense meant to clowns)

D&D 5E (2024) How should the Swordmage be implemented in 1DnD?

I'd like to see a 5e Swordmage that fills the same role as it had in 4e; a defender that has actual class features to discourage monsters from targeting the party squishies.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

I think that's unlikely. The adventure blurb says "some of the multiverse's most famous archmages". Laeral Silverhand may be a big deal on the Sword Coast, but she's not "multiverse-famous". I'd say the main candidates are the ones that have spells named after them in the PHB; Tasha...

The writeoff is the difference between the imagined money and the real money. That doesn't mean it was a bad investment. It could be bad, but it could also have been a good investment, just not quite as good as hoped.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Hasbro transferred the most valuable assets owned by eOne to other business units before selling it, so they were never going to get the same amount back. Did Hasbro overvalue eOne before the sale? Absolutely, but that doesn't it was a bad deal overall.

Writedowns aren't debt. Selling eOne actually reduced Hasbro's debt, since about 125 million of it was held by eOne, and now belongs to someone else. They also used most of the proceeds from the sale to pay off other debts. Hasbro may have hoped that they could sell eOne for more and so pay...

So the "loss" is mostly the eOne writedown, that was never more than imaginary money in the first place. Not great for Hasbro shareholders, but it has no effect on the company's ability to pay its bills going forward.

You can never lose copyright (until it expires) no matter what, you can sit on it for as long as you want. You can potentially lose trademark rights if you let people use your trademark to refer to something other than your product. If gamers start calling every RPG "Dungeons & Dragons" then...
