D&D General It's Magic, You Know

We use roll to cast. No slots. Int/Wis/Cha mod +prof vs DC 11+spell level. Every recast of same spell, DC goes up by 1. Failed check- spell is locked for the day. Fail check but really need that spell to go off or you don't want to roll and risk it? No problem. You take level of exhaustion and...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

Playing Pew Pew Warlock is a blast (pun intended). It's simple but effective. EB+Eldricht spear+Agonizing blast+ Spell sniper feat and you are magical blaster sniper. Combine it with Darkness and Devil's sight invocations and you are golden. Nobody sees you (disadvantage on attacks vs you)...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

3.5 Warlock was simple. Limited amount of invocations (12 max at lv 20, but in the 3.x sweet spot, lvs 4-8, you have 3-5 invocations) and Eldrich Blast as spell like ability that scales similar to Sneak Attack. Everything else Warlock gets is passive (damage reduction, energy resistance, take 10...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "Simple" Full Casting Class?

Warlock. Limited slots, all spells cast at same spell level, invocations that are dead easy. When in doubt, eldricht blast. Yes, there are complex builds for warlock, but by default, they are very easy to build and decently hard to screw up.

    D&D 5E (2024) Crazy armor idea

I would take a look at Grim&Gritty rules. It's similar idea to armor as DR, as both reduce damage to HP. Without adjusting base HP, at lower levels, it gives significant bonus. On the other hand you would need some sort of defense modifier cause PCs will get hit a lot.

    D&D 5E (2024) Firearms in the Forgotten Realms (+)

Also, with their cost, they are out of reach at low levels. With loading properties, they become useless for range weapon focused martials who get extra attack. They also have short range, which makes them worse at distances than bows. TBH, firearms are novelty items in 5e. At least in older...

    D&D 5E (2024) Firearms in the Forgotten Realms (+)

Well, D&D is full of anachronisms. Adding early firearms isn't that big of a deal. In real world, full plate and firearms are from the same period, 15-16ct. Janissaries used them in late 1400s, so did Black Army of Hungary under Matijaš Korvin (same period). Keeping them as simple weapons...

    D&D 5E (2024) Firearms in the Forgotten Realms (+)

Why martial weapons? Firearms should be simple weapons. That's their whole shtick. They are dead simple to use. Unlike bow that takes years to master, old black powder guns were dead simple. Point and pull the trigger. Also, because they take long to reload, they are in pure damage output...

D&D Movie/TV DADHAT becomes Netflix Global Hit

Yes, but, if you wrap up all plot points in season, you don't have lure for next one if it get's approved. Also, you need to write whole new plot for the season. AHS did this, every season is for itself, but that's exception, not a rule.

D&D Movie/TV DADHAT becomes Netflix Global Hit

Some smaller, art/independent focused theaters are doing that and it's awesome. Specially for movies that aren't on streaming platforms and haven't been released on BR. Last movie i saw was Dune pt 2. 166 minutes. Add to that 20 minutes of adds/trailers, that's 3 hours. When i add 2*20 min...

D&D Movie/TV DADHAT becomes Netflix Global Hit

That's also good point. Run times for blockbuster movies have gone up. Quick google search shows there are now less sub 100 min movies, and way more 150+ min movies than it was in the 90s and 00s. When you add 15-20 min of extras before movie (teasers, commercials, phone warnings) in cinema, it...

D&D Movie/TV DADHAT becomes Netflix Global Hit

HAT is decent fantasy movie, but more than that, it's decent action comedy movie with solid cast. Even my wife, who isn't generally into fantasy, liked it. Also, Netflix is still globally no 1 streaming platform. Pair it together and no wonder it's become hit. I loved going to movie theaters...

How Do You Keep Track of All Your RPG Books?

I cleaned my collection. Anything that isn't used fairly regular, gets sold or gifted. I did it with all books, not just rpg. On the other hand, adventure modules never were my thing. Core and player option books only, with occasional setting book and only for the games that will actually be...

How Do You Keep Track of All Your RPG Books?

I don't. On the other hand, i'm not a collector of RPG books. I have a shelf with physical books, but i rarely buy anything new.

D&D General Greyhawk to Faerun and Beyond: A Multiversal D&D Lore Book Is Coming This Fall

I'm glad they left out Dark Sun. Would be more happy if they dropped Ravenloft also. Not cause i don't like the settings, quite opposite, those are my two favorite settings. Personally, don't care for most settings in the book, except Planscape and Spelljammer. As for DS and Ravenloft, i...

    D&D General Greyhawk Humanocentricism?

Campaign we play for the last year or so is human only with a twist. There are magical infusions giving you traits of mythological beings ( elves, dwarfs, dragonborn etc). So you gain mechanical traits of other races, but still look like human. Real fantasy races do exist, but they are less than...

Which fantasy TRPGs do you think truly reflect the characteristics of firearms as Game Changers?

7th sea. Firearms are deadly. Combined with swordsman school that focuses on guns, you can often one shot kill unharmed opponent. While they are still slow and mostly one shot and then draw sword, getting hit hurts. Alot.

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

Why is railroading always talked about in negative context? Some groups enjoy railroads. Good DM can turn railroad into roller coaster. It twists, turns, goes up and down, but it always stays on track and doesn't allow for deviations. You can also enforce those rails by social contract. I'm...

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

It takes both GM work, but also takes proactive players who have formed ideas what they want to do. Both sides need to put some work to make sandbox game run well.

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

I have read only Ravenloft campaign setting and Domains of dread, Van Richten guides plus some novels from TSR era. Black box? You mean Ravenloft box set? Personally, i like 2ed Ravenloft. It's solid world building. Sure better than sorry excuse we got in 5e (VR guide to Ravenloft is pure drek).
