Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Probably a lot of factors: the relative lack of a local board game printing industry meant there wasn't much to protect, and letting small companies outsource actually increased competition and consumer options here (as we are seeing now with thr chaos in the industry). Also, not big enough to...

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Which is, really exactly what Brotherwise Games seems to be doing with the Cosmere stuff.

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Per the Wikipedia definition, no, not even Blackrock qualifies: it really is a term of fiction, even if the lampooning in Cyberpunk is based on real perceived trends: but "Megacorps" as such do not actually exist, not in Givsonoan terms.

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

True, there is the OS...but the R? Without 4E polarizing the hobby? Not so sure.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I wasn't talking about representation in the polls, I was talking about how forumites are more likely than players in general to be itching for change, IMO.

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

But those theoretical new players weren't taking surveys 2 years ago: and those existing players not making a clean break is a big part of getting new players, who will then be attached to the existing game. Old fashioned reds of the entire game just don't make any business sense.

D&D 5E (2014) According to the Hasbro Q1 earning call D&D sales are up substantially.

Nor should they: yet both WoTC with their direct sales and retailers seem to have been doing well woth the books regardless.

Extra notable thst retailers are happy because this time around WotC pushed direct sales pretty hard, and seemingly successfully. Still, it has done well at retail.

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

My 2024 books were printed in the USA. I imagine that the European print runs being bigger made more local printing logistically desirable this go around.

If anything, I would wager that viewpoint is underrepresented on boards like this.

Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.2 Is Officially Live

The biggest example, however, Dungeon Crawl Classics was born out of Joshua Goodman's frustration with trying to support 4E (he really did try, too) inspiring him to pit on his thinking cap and go to the drawing board with the willingness to kill sacred cows for the goal of generating narratives...

Thing is, they could have done both, even provided demonstrations of hiw it would work. But folks didn't want it.

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

Thing is, a lot of tabletop companies are already closing down: for them the tariffs are existential. Big difference between being on the line for a random 145% tax on everything in the pipeline already on the one hand, and the probability that paper and publishing costs will ultimately go up on...

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I think this is right...even though I liked the Class Groups and standardized progression and think it could have offered a lot to the game, I believe this is an accurate read if the situation. And further, that the conservative approach to development ultimately led to a product well aimed at...

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

They had the advantage that their key logistic planning took place when the initial rhetoric was on the horizon...but who could predict this??

D&D 5E (2014) I feel like the surveys gaslit WotC about """"Backwards Compatibility""""

I don't think such a conspiracy theory is necessary, given how many people were absolutely vehement that they would never accept a template approach.

Wizards of the Coast Says That China Tariffs Will Have Minimal Impact on D&D

I'm sure a lot of thst is made in China: so, still not great for the hobby and industry. These tariffs could decimate companies like Wizkids or Beadles & Grimm.

Honestly, the most likely scenario is that they discovered they fit under the early retirement program at their new pay grade and decided it didn't make sense to keep working when they could take thst offer.
