When your DM asks you how many hit points you have left...

I think the PCs should abide by the luck of the dice. If there is a situation where the DM has made a gross mistake, then the DM should at least be *subtle* about it. Being asked how many hit points you have not only alerts the player to your bumbling, but it also makes the player feel like...

Living Greyhawk Journal: Which issues of Dragon/Dungeon did they appear in?

I'm trying to track down all the previous LG Journals and was wondering if anyone could provide me with a comprehensive list of which issues of Dragon/Dungeon they appeared in. So far, I own Issue 0 which appeared in Dragon #274. I understand that some early issues were only available through...

Take the GM out of the Equation- A 3e design philosophy

Now I know why in 3E my players knit-pick at my decisions and bully me into submission. They have the power!!! It all makes sense. I've been disempowered by 3E design logic. The question, now, is: How does a DM reattain his power but still play 3E? Is it possible? (Maybe I'm a weak spined...

    Tell me about Van Richten

Did the good doctor die or disappear? Isn't their a boxed-set adventure that recounts his death/disappearance. Bleak House or something I think it's called . . . Who does the good doctor in? Where does Van Ritchen come from? Is he a RL native or does he come from somewhere like 1890s Earth...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Dear Gary: A hypothetical situation Dear Gary, If you won a million, trillion, squillion dollars and purchasing back the rights to D&D was just a drop in the ocean, would you: a) Not even bother buying back the rights for D&D. That's behind you now. You would use all your money to promote and...

    What color are yer gobins?

I had blue orcs in my FR campaign waaaaay before the blue goblins of the Psionic Handbook ;) . They were an "evolved" orc from another world. I called them Hoch-Euroz, meaning "High-Orc" and they followed all the stats of a half-orc.

    What color are yer gobins?

My Ral Patha paint only has one Human Flesh Color. It is a light shade of pinky cream.

Did anyone like the old Monstrous Compendium ring-binder format?

Actually, I do remember a different format TSR (2nd Ed. era) tried . . . The Dark Sun modules with those wire-bound notepad style adventures. You'd get one for the DM and one for the players with just illustrations on 'em. It was interesting, but I prefer book format.

    What color are yer gobins?

Sorry. How do I edit the poll to allow multiple choice?

    What color are yer gobins?

D&D goblins are red, I think. In Warhammer, gobs and orcs share the same green skin. In LotRs, what color are gobs and orcs? (Grey-green like in the films?) Was the old D&D orc pink-skinned? (And had a piggy snout for sniffing out truffles?)

How do you stop a DM from starting NEW campaigns all the time?

That strikes an old wound. ;) I'm not just thinking of this situation, though. I'm thinking of other situations in general. Because, in the past, I've had a lot of my friends start campaigns but they don't sustain them long. I like long continuous campaigns where the world and the characters...

How do you stop a DM from starting NEW campaigns all the time?

If you have a DM who starts new campaigns all the time because he/she gets "bored" of the current campaign how do you stop him/her? I've got a DM who wants to start a new campaign but we've barely played the current one. When I roll up a PC I want to develop his character and play him to Epic...

Did anyone like the old Monstrous Compendium ring-binder format?

I wasn't too keen on the format because I have a fondness for books and also I found the individual pages would dog-ear and tear at the holes in the binder. I'm glad they later came out with the Monstrous Manual tome. Nevertheless, I've kept my Monstrous Compendium and all the Appendicies...

    I've figured it out.

I played 1st edition for about 1 year and then 2nd edition came out. I loved the 2nd edition! I founded it easier to use and the books were much more user-friendly. The only down-side I noticed was that the sourcebooks and adventures they started to release were not hard-edge and serious like...

The DM did IMPURE things to my PC!

This is the end? Thank you Everyone for your help. :) Discussing this has helped me come to terms with my problem and I am now at peace. I can move on. The problem is, now the DM is going to end the *whole* campaign. He wants to start a new one that is heroic and the PCs are good. He thinks...

The DM did IMPURE things to my PC!

He's made those comments but they never happened within the game. I would never validate them in the story/campaign. If he is serious about doing these things, then I'd tell him: "OK. But you have to hand over your character. It's now permanently an NPC . . . an *insane* NPC". In the examples...

The DM did IMPURE things to my PC!

I'm going to do just that! I'm happy to try something different. I'm happy to roll up a PC who worships Tzeentch and likes to have schemes and secrets that the other PCs don't know about. The DM (Rimple) says he wants to end the campaign completely now. I said: "No Way!!!! I'm not having the...
