D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I never said you were a terrible person. I thought you were a decent poster until you kept trying to catch @pemerton up in some kind of hypocrisy/misunderstanding about how his game works, which did a solid amount of work to lower my opinion. But I’m also just a rando on the internet, so I...

Since I think the "most important part" from that chain of replies is "play being organized around principles and focus, not tone and theme", then I would probably say yes. Unprincipled play is most likely to be thespian-oriented, casual, "let's hang out and see what happens" play. I have...

The first of those examples is @pemerton comparing BW to another game that they continually advocate for on these boards (TB2). The second is in response to a post where you, YOU, asked "I'm looking for you to say "I feel that Burning Wheel does <thing> well because of <reason>". Come on...

Yea, and people choosing to follow those beliefs shows agency. The imaginary figure is not exerting any agency.

Did you read the context of what happened? The character was in no way expecting to have gather up spilled blood from a freshly murdered corpse.

Dungeon World Gets New Owners, Second Edition Planned

I really haven't played enough DW1 to have strong opinions on the changes. But recognizing that D&D has moved sharply away from both dungeon-crawling and "adventuring as career", and towards fantasy superheroes doing action-movie set pieces with a strong focus on thespianism, seems like a...

I'm just going to say this: When I have another poster ask me a "dozen questions" about a game they don't seem to understand because they're looking to nitpick my GMing decisions, I'm also not inclined to answer them.

If there's a limit, I have not found it.

Because they were chasing some dude to stop him from murdering someone? They weren't expecting that dude to get murdered today? In their rush to, you know, stop a murder they might have overlooked something? And again, because your goals are rigorously oriented around "are the rules...

And again. It's wasn't a clarification, it was an example. I don't really feel a response is necessary? "We should try to understand each other" is pretty much a truism. Am I going to make a defense of "Let's close ourselves off and not try to understand other people's point of view?" I...

I don't think anyone is talking past each other at this point; we just have a simple disagreement on what the correct usage of the term is.

I'm reiterating a starting point to describe how we got from the beginning to right now. It's an example of a lack of nuance that drives a lot of the contention, and which you (rightly!) critiqued in your previous post. If someone uses a term, and someone else pushes back that they use the...

Exactly. This is a complex analysis, so saying things "I think sandboxes have maximal agency" is going to naturally cause pushback. Because you're using a very broad term to mean a subset of something with lots of categories without doing a lot of necessary caveating.

You would think after being immersed in these posts for a few years, you'd just start to pick up the jargon by osmosis. (Is "osmosis" too jargony?)
