    GMs: Guiding Morals in GMing

Weirdly I played Heart (the follow up to Spire) at a convention recently and the GM, had a notebook full of stuff prepped for the four hour slot. The characters had a mission to do, and they were certain challenges on the Delve we needed to over come all were prepped. The whole game seemed...

    GMs: Guiding Morals in GMing

Sounds like a Call of Cthulhu Keeper after my own heart.

Commentary thread for that “Describe your game in five words” thread.

Expanding on the two post I made "Saved the world from Yog-Sothoth." and "They let Yog-Sothoth be summoned" Two different RPG parties going through the same scenario, first was my home group, second was running the same scenario at a DevaCon in Chester. The scenario is A Quest for Power...

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

How the character is viewed by his peers within the order, relationship with the city mayor who was one of the main patrons for the party, that sort of stuff. Not everything needs a mechanical difference to be part of the story.

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

Just an roleplaying one, as in them taking offense at it, threats to expel me from the town/order, that sort of stuff. Doesn't need mechanics.

Approaches to prep in RPGing - GMs, players, and what play is *about*

That's perhaps true but it doesn't need to be. I played a Paladin in a recent 1st Ed Pathfinder campaign that routinely visited brothels between adventures (which was totally legal in the setting). The GM acting through the NPCs Mayor of the town and head of the local church that he followed...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D's Upcoming Digital Tabletop

They talk about user produced content (good) being able to be shared (good), but they also refer to is as a "marketplace" so I suspect it will be shared like Roll20's marketplace, and they will take a cut of anything sold on it. I also notice the Ankheg was labelled Ankheg (painted), I really...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D's Upcoming Digital Tabletop

Yeah at least that is a shared experience then. But I think that video with them sat round the table with laptops is misleading. They are clearly talking about a VTT for remote play. They are just round a table for the demo, but in reality they would all be in different places. I would like to...

Player-driven campaigns and developing strong stories

Then make the Players the authority figures. This is what Kingdom by Lame Mage does. All the players are the "rulers" of the Kingdom, be they advisors, wealthy individuals, influencers or an actual King. No prep and no GM, so there can be any GM Railroading. The nature "Kingdom" is decided by...

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

I'm not sure that's true, as both Nude Descending a Staircase and the Second Law of Thermodynamics have some worth. But do you agree that some opinions aren't worth as much as others. Just so we are clear.

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

Sure but some of the people in this thread have also been stark and without nuance. They have said there is no place for slavery for example.

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

What do you actually mean by "heard and respected" though? If more people like "sexist" art, do we keep it in, or don't we because "everybody deserves to be heard and respected"? Do we teach flat earth theory in schools because everyone deserves to be heard and respected. If say 99% of people...

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

I think you were closer with removed as there are those saying it should not appear at all, because it is unwelcoming and other like myself that think there is still a place for it in RPGs.

    Battletech Mercenaries KS Launched

I'd be interested but it seems much more like a minis campaign, rather than a campaign to actually produce a decent set of Mercenary company rules to support a campaign play.

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

Again highly unlike anyone can prove that, so why ask? Also I know plenty of men would have liked those images (myself included), do you think removing them has caused the men to leave the hobby in the same number as women that may have joined it? Or do you think that while people may well...

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

Nah, I think that's too big an ask. You aren't going to be able to prove that, and there are some valid reasons for generally not featuring slavery. I'm all for it not being part of a core setting like Forgotten Realms, even okay for companies like Paizo deciding not to have it as a plot device...

What We Lose When We Eliminate Controversial Content

I'm not sure I want the part of the market that thinks the illustrations in the current any PHB could be "dangerous", in the game. Thanks. At least not if they are going to want to change it to fit their world view. I'm glad we have got people in the hobby that might have considered...
