    (OT) Muountainbike Vacation--Where to Go?

Free Thinker? See my nutty response. "...hang out in cool villages and towns, and sip whiskey and beer." There's no better place to do these things laddie.

Really? I'd never even heard about it (probably why) The bad guys looked interesting though.

Is DF dead? Revival possible? Please Read.

I'm still in. I don't have the web-skills to update and manipulate the site though (otherwise I'd do it). I'm sure L Ron still is in too. Morrus doesn't seem interested in the whole thing anymore (to tell you the truth). So I don't know.

    (OT) Better than George Martin

Top 5 reasons why these books are cool: (1) Huge cast of diverse, ambiguous characters. (2) The methods of magic (warrens, houses, the Deck of Dragons) (3) Epic and bloody combat and warfare. (4) Intricate and devilish plots and intrigue. (5) Super-detailed world and cultures.

Great Avarice. You'll like 'em. Here's a link to a pretty good in progress fansite (the messageboard sees a lot of traffic) : http://www.malazanempire.com/ Follow the links and you can see the bookcovers. And this bit of related news: Blood Follows Steven Erikson's new book 'Blood...

Thanks Deadguy. I agree wholeheartedly with your evaluation. The magic system is very cool and is integrated very well into the story and the world.

Thanks Valaran. You raised some valid points. I also knew Erikson was a gamer but I didn't know what game. Anyway, the only time I had any trouble distinguishing characters was in the third book with the newer Bridgeburners like Picker, Antsy, and Blend. When I starting catching on that...

    (OT) Better than George Martin

I wouldn't say they're in the same writing style as Martin. They are very grim/gritty, but the language used requires a bit of thinking. My reference to Martin is more in the vast, epic-style of story-telling, with a huge cast of ambiguous, interesting characters and rich world background.

    (OT) Better than George Martin

Ok, I realize now that I'm only just getting into it and to give you the whole picture would take a lot longer that I thought. But I think you get the idea. There's an awful lot going on, and there are many players involved. It's a convoluted tale, with complex characters and a depth of scope...
