    D&D 5E (2014) The problem with 5e

    Adventures in Middle Earth, Odyssey of the Dragonlords and the new Hellboy game have shown me that the 5e chassis is solidly built if tweaked to be less of a fantasy kitchen sink. When the campaign has some logical constraints in place, I like 5e a lot more than “vanilla”.

    Funny enough I'm only interested in a hugely diverse set of "races" in a surreal, post-apocalyptic or futuristic (ie, sci-fi) setting.

    Seconding this. The Ranger from Adventures in Middle Earth is great. Perhaps not as strong as "generic magical ranger trope from high fantasy" as the regular Ranger class, but it works really well without magic.     D&D 5E (2014) Custom races and tasha’s

    I'm running a Humans only campaign using the Tasha's "build a race" option. To represent cool ancestries, I'm including the racial Feats. So a character could have vaguely Elvish ancestry in a land where elves are gone. Pretty cool.

    I think that there should be fewer, but with more distinct sub-classes. Eg, a variant of the Ranger without magic, a variant of the Warlock like a Witch, a Wuxia Fighter etc...
