    D&D 5E (2024) Warlock -- initial analyses

I've played around with the idea of a Celestial Bladelock, and it's better than that. Agonizing Blast can be applied to any Warlock cantrip now, so if you put it on True Strike (or Green-Flame Blade if your DM allows pre-Revision material) you get triple your Cha mod. Once from Blade Pact...

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

There's a lot of small nerfs to Bladelock, compared to the UA builds. Blade Pact no longer enables Mastery traits. The third attack costs yet another invocation. Lifedrinker is limited to once per turn. There's no easy and economical way to get Medium Armor or Shields. It's enough that the next...

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

That's been answered in other threads. The third attack got broken out into a second Invocation, but Lifedrinker got nerfed to once per turn.

    D&D 5E (2024) I just got a 2024 PHB From Gen Con. AMA!

Warlock's Chain Pact has new options, some of which we've seen stats for and some we haven't. The Sphinx of Wonder, for example, got an official preview. But there was a last minute addition of the Venomous Snake, and I don't think we know anything detailed about its stats. Could you glance at...

Go back a page and there's a video of a page by page walkthrough of the book. We do not have to guess or theorize as to things like layout.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I've heard people complain about it frequently. Usually some variety of "It sucks that to make a strong grappler I need to get Athletics Expertise somehow. Or be a raging Barbarian." With the rules changes, the best grapplers are either Monks or anyone who took the Unarmed Fighting Style. Which...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Technically yes, but that's so inefficient it's criminal to suggest. You're using a Light off-hand weapon with Nick, but you're not getting the bonus attack from the Light property. You're trading a Rapier attack for a weaker Dagger attack, just so you can turn around and get a half-strength...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I am both narratively and mechanically repulsed by any combat style that involves hot swapping weapons every turn.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Well... not really. Failing a roll means you attempted the action and either performed poorly or circumstances conspired against you. Like, if you try to bake a cake and fail, you still used all the ingredients in the attempt. You don't get to retroactively call the whole thing off before you...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

That's the clause for its own bonus attack. The previous version of the feat modified the Light property, which requires a pair of Light weapons, such that one could be a non-Light weapon. Basically it let you play the classic "rapier and dagger" combat style. That is no longer an option...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

I found a video clip that shows the full text of the new Dual Wielder feat. It's very different from the UA version. The clause about using a non-Light weapon is gone, so no rapier or longsword main hand. Instead, when you make an attack when a Light weapon, you can make a Bonus Action attack...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

We're still early days, and the information is incompletely and slightly distorted. But I'm mocking out character ideas and trying to get a feel for what might be fun. Bladelock is feeling pretty restricted, between the invocation taxes and the difficulty taking the good martial feats. But OTOH...

D&D General Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics: Why DPR Isn't the Stat to Rule them All

Telling about what? That I watched a couple of his videos, decided he wasn't for me, and stopped? I personally think that's the normal and sane reaction to a creator that isn't for you. Just because I don't hang around to hatewatch every new video so I can loudly complain about how terrible it...

D&D General Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics: Why DPR Isn't the Stat to Rule them All

I don't watch Treantmonk, if I can help it. It's not my kind of analysis. What I do know is when and how he gets cited as an authoritative source in debates, and it's usually his DPR numbers. So yeah, maybe some of the video creators are trying to take a more holistic view. That doesn't stop...

D&D General Lies, Darn Lies, and Statistics: Why DPR Isn't the Stat to Rule them All

I dunno. I sure see Treantmonk's DPR charts quoted as authoritative analysis in a lots of parts of the Internet. That was the entire basis for the loud outcry that UA Blade Pact Warlocks were overpowered.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Background and Origin Feat Article

I didn't spot any in this article, but previously they've said the custom Background rules will be in the DMG. So I wouldn't expect info on that for a while yet.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Background and Origin Feat Article

The much debated Lightly Armored is NOT on the list of Origin feats. So that's one side of the debate happy. I have to presume that it still exists in some form as a General feat. But I have to wonder what form it will take and what ASI is attached to it. If it's just Str or Dex, for example...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D species article

I didn't remember there being a second Dragonborn UA. But I suppose that says something about how much I care about Dragonborn. Hmm, what about Elves getting to pick from Insight, Perception, or Survival for Keen Senses instead of all getting Perception? Is that new?

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D species article

Looks like a lot of tweaks from the UA release to me. Dragonborn get (temporary) wings and flight! I don't think we'd seen that before. Also orcs lose Powerful Build, orcs and dwarves get 120ft darkvision, and aasimer get to pick their transformation each time instead of being locked into a type.

    D&D 5E (2024) So Class Complexity...

Yeah, it's absolutely a "How complex is character creation" not "How complex is combat operation" chart.
