Mearls is the new manager of D&D

Many of us didn't allow Tome of Battle or Book of Nine Swords in our games. Also being as they were near the end of the life cycle of the edition, I would wager a guess their sales were more of the completionist and the I want to know all of it players vice your introductory players. My...

Mearls is the new manager of D&D

First off, congrats on the new job. I wish you many long years at it at your own choosing. I fully sympathize with your 2E feeling of void. It is probably very similar to what many of us felt with 4E. I know I did, a feeling that D&D 'left me'. I think the biggiest reason for it is in it's...

    Running NPCs as a long-term party/team member

I have in the past. But usually it is a Fighter/Rogue class for the NPC that the party lacks. In 1E, we had lots of NPC's as many of the modules dictated having multitudes of party members and henchmen/hirelings with you.

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

I think mainly that is due to many have never run/played it in full or past the moathouse. Think about it, T1-4 was designed to take you from 1st level all the way to 8th level. That is one short of name level in 1E. That was a lot of time and effort progressing your characters that far...

D&D 3.x Recommend an online 3.5 character sheet?

If you have a PDF file of the sheet you like best, you could use https://www.fillanypdf.com/ to save things and share them with folks you want too.

    No Naval Rules?

We used thise game for ship to ship simulation: Pirates of the Spanish Main | Board Game | BoardGameGeek Simple yet effective. When we got close enough for boarding actions than we broke out the ship layouts on the play mat.

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

I just kept a list of the major NPC's (i.e. The High Priests for each Element) listed on a side paper with notes on them. I do this with any module. Another big thing most forget to do was general movement of monsters or the factions when they brought in new recruits/sacrifices or even simple...

    Nonstandard Coins?

CP/SP/EP/GP/PP are standard in my games. Using a base 10 to 1 ratio throughout it, makes accounting easier. Rarer coins are those of Adamantite, Mithril, Tin, Bronze, etc. CP 1000000 SP 100000 EP 10000 GP 1000 PP 100 MP 10 AP 1 I commonly use Trade Bars of each material and Writs of Credit as...

    Book Shelf Recommendations?

Yes milkcrates are a great cheap solution as well. I would recommend going to the hardware store and getting a long piece of threaded bar to tie it all in unless you want it full moveable at a moments notice.

    What brings you to Con?

I think the Dealer room is the biggiest draw for me. Followed closely by Intro games, especially for systems I'm not familar with and not willing to take the big $$ drop for something I'm not sure I'll like or not. The RPGA games don't mean anything for me as a non-member, but as was said...

    Book Shelf Recommendations?

If your budgeting and don't care about looks. Go get the Saunder put it together yourself. The flipping the shelf every so often to fight sag weight is a definite do it as often as you change the smoke alarm batteries. Go to yard sales, hunt Craigslist in your area. I've picked up some really...

Temple of Elemental Evil - expectations

It can be nothing but a grind it out wall to wall combat fest or it can be a complete roleplaying experience. I've gone through multiple ways during play and running. Really depends on the group. Playing the factions against one another is a big part of the T series. You can even find ways of...

Ok what are all these adventures!?

No asterik - I've played in or DM'd * - Have electronic copy of and/or played/DM'd ** - Have electronic copy and hardcopy and/or played/DM'd But thanks for the list, shows me what all I'm missing out there.

Has WoTC announced any ebooks yet?

They'be tried that route before. It failed horribly. Best it got them were some publicity cases to use as an excuse to pull legal sales. Arg it's a Pirate's Life matey. ;) Personally I think it was on both accounts. From the outset 4E was being stalked by the pirates. Think about it, the...

Irrevocable death? Or do you allow resurrection?

Really depends on Group, Setting, Campaign, what game you are playing and actual gameplay. Personally I would love bringing forward the old Con rules from 1E. Though I think I would have a player revolt.

The Return of "Basic" and "Advanced" D&D?

Made the same statement in another thread around here. If you make it so ANYONE could come in spend $20-25 and be able to start off playing without any other purchase, you widen the base. If they see the handy dandy add for the DDI and join in, you created your continuing revenue stream. If...

    Spelljammer Galactica

I think I just had a nerdgasism. :D Pretty interesting idea. I guess the only real question is what is preventing of the escape to the mortal realms?

    Whatever happened to Necromancer Games?

I've always liked using a third party product on occassion. Even back in 1st Edition days. You all remember the Role-Aids series right? I remember mining them for a lot of goodies both fluff and crunch. Third Parties have always played at least a small role in the development of D&D. And...

Dark Sun Hopes & Dreams & Fears & Nightmares

Here use this: edit it to suit yourself. Explains why there are some fey around, but not many. Can explain legends of it as well. Or ya could simply give it a chance and wait for it to come out. Who knows they might suprise us with a great product. :D

    Wizards aiming younger audience

Funny they could even keep reruning the same adventures too. After all they would forget between sessions. :D Sorry I deal with grandparents that have a hard time remember what happened in the morning at dinner time. Call it dark humor. Actually I think this is a case where WotC is taking a...
