WotC News - Is this for real???

I'm also confused, Scoundrel sounds a lot better than some of the names they come out with

    How is the D&D Boardgame?

I bought it for the princely sum of £6 from a shop called Booksale, surreally they upped the price to £10 the following week. It's certainly playable, and I've been playing with Fiancee's nephew (7yrs), and he's been enjoying it. For a good sorta review, they've got a recording of it being...

    Why aren't potions labeled?

Usually not labelled, but only 'cause I've never thought about it. Also "Potatoes spread to the rest of the world after European contact with the Americas in the late 1400s and early 1500s" So it's not such a given really - not that D&D has much in common to any period of history.

I feel like a hypocrite (CHA skills and RP)

I don't think I would force a character to do something, I'd use tools to strongly encourage it though. As Spycraft (2.0) is my game of choice, I'd allow a character to spend an Action Dice to refuse the action (no roll required) In other games with no such mechanic (i.e. standard D&D), I'd...

    0-level spells?

I like prestidigitation, but I can't motivate my players to use 0th level spells, except for the occaisional cure minor wounds, and they even tend to overlook that for any other healing available. Next game I start I plan on allowing free access to cantrips once a caster can access 2nd level...

Covert Ops Feats (Louis Porter Jr. Design)

Okay, a reaction like that has instantly put me off buying anything.

    Gaming with the kids ...

My daughter's still a bit too young for this (err, she's 3 months), but I've been slowly converting my 7 year old nephew. I've been going for a tack of boardgames getting increasing more RPGy. So we started out on the D&D boardgame (since it only cost £5 from a discount shop) and now we're...

    True 20: using hit points?

IIRC correctly, in M&M the conversion to hit points was as simple as 1 point of toughness save = 3 hp (or maybe 5, as long as you're consistent it doesn't really matter). The same applies for damage.

    Sidewinder SRD

Just out of curiousity what is meant by this statement? I've not looked at much 3rd party d20 modern stuff, so maybe it's obvious.

What do you like in a RPG?

I like rulesets that allow me to be truly heroic, Exalted, Spycraft 2.0, Falkenstein and so on. I don't like having to do stuff that doesn't happen in books/films - such as checking for traps on every door.

    I'm Tired of Vanilla

It's just nice to remind people that vanilla ain't plain. Though plain is nice (essentially frozen cream). So Vanilla ain't plain, and plain doesn't mean boring (neither does vanilla)

Total Newbie: Tell Me About Magic: The Gathering

Magic is great fun - provided you don't take it too seriously. If it's just you and your friends you can buy a deck, trade a couple of cards between you to tweak a little and play for quite a while, when you fancy something a bit different buy some more cards and mix them up a bit. Magic was...

    Me Dwarven Kin?

I like dwarves, but I'm not keen on how they're portrayed. I don't like this whole crazy berzerker stereotype. My dwarves are the calm in the storm, when everything is going crazy around you, you can count on the dwarf to be a pillar of stability - unfazable, methodical, patient and difficult to...

The 10-foot pole, antithesis of what adventuring should be?

Personally, if a player started walking around with a 10' pole, I'd get antagonistic with them. But in as many narrow windy corridors with low ceilings - require skill checks to get the thing around them. Use traps with a 20'+ radius and generally do all I can to convince them that the bloody...

[Not-a-Poll]How much do you restrict player chargen choice?

As of late I've been inclined to ban most stuff. Either PHB, or PHB and setting books (for Iron Kingdoms). If someone brings something that they really want to use I'll consider it, if it says mongoose publishing on it, I usually just say no - as that stuff tends to be so far out of whack I...

    I'm Tired of Vanilla

Our local ice-cream place does both plain and vanilla ice-cream. And I actually prefer Plain. In D&D I tend to prefer playing a core character. I like playing the common man - the farm-boy who serves in the militia and becomes a fighter. Or the street-urchin who grows into a rogue through his...

    Flintstones Technology in D&D

I was planning a campaign setting based around this sort of principle. It was an old world where everything had been pretty much tamed and the various creatures of D&D had filled niches in the civilised world.

D20 Modern vs. Spycraft: Tell me which one you like better

Hmm, for some reason I misinterpreted that rule when I used to play - I assumed mundane object was something not particularly useful - something like sunglasses, a zippo lighter, a can of hairspray etc. EDIT: Besides which the whole paragraph about this was a tangeant anyway - I think the d20...

D20 Modern vs. Spycraft: Tell me which one you like better

The spycraft gear system is quite tied in, i.e. your two gear progressions Wealth and Gear are tied into which class you are - that said if you're aware of this you can compensate. Personally I have no problem with with Spycraft Gear, I view it like Firefly - you have a few things that you...

D20 Modern vs. Spycraft: Tell me which one you like better

I second that, personally I was really impressed with d20 modern coming up with ideas to replace D&D and make FantasyModern (which is essentially what Grim Tales did). But then I played a couple of games of Spycraft and realised how much better it was. With SC2 now, its pushed the bar just that...
