D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and Cormyr: Flexing My Idea Muscle and Thinking Out Loud

Magic Items: Inherited Traits and Accidental Enchantments I just love Xanathar’s Guide to Everything (XGtE). It’s got something for everyone. And unlike a lot of other sourcebooks, each dose of “something for everyone” is big, not small. That is, there’s a lot of crossover value (i.e., value...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and Cormyr: Flexing My Idea Muscle and Thinking Out Loud

TEN IDEAS FOR THE HERMIT'S WOODS (NEAR BLUSTICH) • In the Hermit’s Wood, on consecutively cloudy nights, one can tell if the moon has shown through the clouds by night because a certain flower changes color under the light of the moon. • Leafmaps form on dead leaves, not just living ones. •...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and Cormyr: Flexing My Idea Muscle and Thinking Out Loud

TEN IDEAS FOR BLUSTICH • On the Dragon Coast, in the village of Blustich, the women sing and the men play instruments. • This is for most gatherings involving summoning the wind and the spirits of the fog. • Of course the men and women of Blustich sing and play instruments as suits their...

    D&D 5E (2014) 101 Hermit Backgrounds

#74: Trinket Horrors Finding an abandoned hold in which to retreat from the world was easy; Cormyr is full of such places. Living with the...things...was hard, at first. Odds and ends gather everywhere living creatures exist. Possessions outlive their owners. Absent someone to use them...

    What is *worldbuilding* for?

"Crystaline perfection" is the perfect phrase for DMs that take it too far. This is something I've heard of, but never experienced at the gaming table. I would not want to wish it on any player. The closest I've come is a DM that was running a successful AD&D Realms campaign set in...

    What is *worldbuilding* for?

Ramming my head into a brick wall would have provided more value than reading the first sentence of your reply, Aldarc. It's wise, I've found, to be mindful of the fact that people you're interacting with have their own gaming experiences--some of us going back 30 years or more--so when people...

    What is *worldbuilding* for?

Spot on. If a DM is having fun building a campaign world, then it will show in the experience the players have at the gaming table. The same happens to be true for game design, I've found.

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

I've no desire to support Pinnacle or Savage Rifts (and I LIKE Rifts a lot) while Fannon remains involved.

[FR] Adventure ideas for the Sword Coast and the North

Are you on the DMs Guild, Ymdar? If yes, let me know here or by PM. I'd be happy to send you a complimentary copy of my little Neverwinter book. Might be some more there you can use.

    What is *worldbuilding* for?

Worldbuilding is for the enjoyment of the DM. It's that part of the game where the pleasure of writing and creating coincides with planning out how to generate fun and a good time for others. Even with established campaign worlds like the Forgotten Realms, worldbuilding is a blast.

D&D General Adventuring Company Names and What They Are Up To

As a thank you to EN World, and to the members who've participated in this thread and left kind comments, I thought I would post an image of some of the adventuring companies that first appeared in this thread, but have since been ported over to the in-progress-with-updates-and-revisions version...

Lore You Should Know: Giff Correction, Cormyr, Gnomes and Halflings, silly D&D

Dear Lord I hope they stay away from a Cormyr. If the in-house designers can’t recall the name of THE Purple Dragon, best not let them write adventures or sourcebooks for the place. All the same, I am glad they covered Cormyr as part of their discussion.
