    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

I voted 10 because I think it’s an excellent system. I DM or play in 3 current regular campaigns and I’m prepping another 3. Spending about 8 hours a week on average on the game. Why on earth would I do that if I didn’t think it was great? My company uses net promoter score a lot. We’re...

If your main issue is that you don’t know the rules properly - and assuming that is a problem for you because not everyone would care - then the obvious answer is to learn the rules. To put it another way git good. I still occasionally misremember things from 3e and pathfinder as being in 5e...

I mean player facing stuff absolutely does concern me when I DM because I want players to have fun at my table. It was a summary of PHB changes though. I like the MM changes I’ve used so far but of course I’ve only used a relatively small selection of them in the 6 months the book has been out...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

I’m not intending to come across as a fanboy. I spend equally as much time playing WFRP which couldn’t be more different as a game. I just think for what D&D does well, 2024 does it better. They aren’t massive improvements. They’re many many small improvements. IMHO. I probably praise more in...

We were never gonna get a compendium. It doesn’t make sense for new players or from a business perspective. We got upgraded system that took the best from the supplements to date. In such a way that you can largely still use anything they didn’t include. Sounds like a win win. If the changes...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

I’ve only ever had one TPK. A party of 4th level players were attacked by a spellcasting Drider. It went first and were all bunched up. It fireballed them. They all stayed in the same position. It fireballed them again. Unlucky saves and a good roll for damage. Game over.

    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

Yes. It was either overpowered or underpowered depending on whether you guessed the spell level right. With no mechanic to work out what level of spell was being cast. It was a game of battleship where the DM can see both sides of the board and gets to decide where his battleships are after the...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

With my rating I think how likely am I to recommend it to someone else. Not as opposed to other games but in isolation. I guess that’s the same principle. If I’m rating a restaurant I don’t mark it down because there’s another restaurant in town that I happen to like as well. Folks of course...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

I mean we’ve been playing it a lot throughout the playtest - trying things as they were released and switching to the new rules felt really organic. Our main group of longest term players (all 20+ years) see it as overwhelmingly positive. Things I see as straight upgrades Weapon Masteries...

It’s really ironic actually. The WFRP 4e system gained a lot of tweaks and adjustments over its release. Adding options, tweaking rules and adding alternatives. Similar to Xanathar’s and Tasha’s et al. The WFRP community has been asking for an updated 4.5 set of rules to bring it all together...

I think it absolutely can. I actually use Counterspell now as a wizard PC and as a DM. I would never use it before because it required this silly guessing game about the level of the spell. Now it’s usable. I think I would agree with @Gladius Legis , every change is an improvement. Don’t get...

    D&D 5E (2024) Rate D&D 2024

I would actually rate 2024 the same score as D&D 2014, Pathfinder 1e, 3e and AD&D. Because all those systems were great for me at the time I played them. Each absolutely captivated me at the time of playing and continued a lifelong love of D&D I do a lot of work with 1-10 scale surveys. It’s...

As I said in the Poverty Thread, it’s rich, inspiring, and vibrant. Best three books we’ve seen in the 40 years of there being 3 books. If the FR and Eberron books are as good I’ll be a very happy bunny.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

It’s a +9 to hit so realistically you can half that number at the levels that an Archmage kicks in. It’s a versatile power but a well placed cone of cold could do more depending on the size of the party. It might vary with various protections and damage soaks. Honestly I would be customizing my...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

You know what, the more I consider it, the more I think ‘Poverty’ is such a poor choice of words to describe any of the Core Books. They are rich, lush and abundant. I’ve never seen such generous core books for art, inspiration, and choice. Pretty much every aspect I’ve seen improves on what...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

As with many discussions like this. It was an Internet forum problem and certainly not one I saw with my players. They know that as a DM I’m a gift, munificent even. I’ve seen many discussions where DMs found it frustrating though and that sentiment often pervaded the boards. Don’t get me...

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Our group had a disagreement about an NPC Mage casting misty step or casting Counterspell and then dropping a fireball. The spell ability nature of that sparked a a bit of a debate around the issue. I then pointed out that one of PCs had Fey Blooded. If monsters can have legendary actions - the...
