    D&D 3.x 3.5 Spell Revision Question

It does and it doesn't. It has been replaced by the spell called Death Ward.

    Specialist and Spell-like Abilities

The -5 penalty is mentioned in the Spellcraft skill description. After reading it again I think the best thing to do if you have a second primary spell casting class such as cleric is remove the -5 penalty. Not as if Spellcraft checks to determine what spell is in effect will greatly unbalance...

Why is Eberron being pushed so hard?

I just want to point out to those who say WOTC is putting all of their eggs in one basket that Forgotten Realms has as many products coming out as Eberron is. Video game wise they have Neverwinter Nights 2 and supposedly Baldur's Gate 3 (read this on gamespy last week, said it would be revealed...

    Spell-Like Ability confusion?

The closest thing I have found so far in the Monster Manual is Cure Serious Wounds and Make Whole for Formian Workers, it requires many workers and is a full round action for each of them to perform. The vast majority of Spell Like abilities seem to follow the spell description except where...

    Spell-Like Ability confusion?

Hong, you crack me up. For everyone else, here is very specific information about this, from page 180 of the 3.5 PHB. "Usually, a spell-like ability works just like the spell of that name. A few spell-like abilities are unique; these are explained in the text where they are described. A...

What Quickened Spell-Like Abilities for Mystic-Thurge/Archmage?

Thanks. I am thinking the same, it makes sense to use them for both.

What Quickened Spell-Like Abilities for Mystic-Thurge/Archmage?

We are currently hitting the City of Glass Pool, a city that it took us months of travel in the Underdark to get to. The DM took a cue from me and is using the rules for Faerzress from the Underdark book in the game (Requiring a DC 35 Spellcraft check to teleport more then 1 mile through the...

What Quickened Spell-Like Abilities for Mystic-Thurge/Archmage?

This brings up something. I subconsciouscly must have assumed based on the description of Mastery of Shaping that it would work with my Druid Spells as well. Of course this is likely not the case. Here is a further question: Can Arcane Reach, Mastery of Counterspelling, and Mastery of...

What Quickened Spell-Like Abilities for Mystic-Thurge/Archmage?

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. We are not allowed to buy any Magic Items in the game. I had actually been running a Night Below Campaign for our group but got real burned out doing it. When we restarted half a year later, our new DM for the campaign (who has played through most...

    Specialist and Spell-like Abilities

If you use the Red Wizard in the 3.5 DMG (only class in the Core books that adds another prohibited school) as a reference, it states that a Red Wizard must choose another prohibited school using the rules from the PHB. It then goes on to say "He can never again learn spells from those...

    Specialist and Spell-like Abilities

I would rule that you get -5 for Spellcraft checks on prohibited schools for Arcane Spells only. I would not have the -5 on Divine spells if the character also has levels in a divine spell caster, though I agree this gets a little hairy.

Creating a 'point buy' for prestige classes

This reminds me too much of skills and powers from 2nd edition. *shudder* I would like to see it when it is done, could be usefull as a DM tool to make classes if done well. But I would hate for a player to use something like this to make their own prestige classes. Good Luck.

    Spell-Like Ability confusion?

Pg 180 of the 3.5 PHB says "Spell-like abilities cannot be used to counterspell, nor can they be counterspelled." Not sure about using spellcraft on them, but by reading the Spellcraft description I would assume you could, as you can identify spells already in affect, and strange or unique...

    Starting at 0 level

That would work great. Just give them something like 8+int bonus for the FREE commoner class, then give them the normal starting (x4) skill points for their real class. Also, if you give them the commoner class as a FREE class, and do not count it for level/hd purposes, make sure not to count...

    Specialist and Spell-like Abilities

Yes, she is able to use spell-like abilities from prohibited schools. Spell-like Abilities are not spells, though they are magical. A specialist wizard only gives up casting spells from those schools for her wizard spell progression. For instance, if you multiclassed as a wizard/cleric, you...

What Quickened Spell-Like Abilities for Mystic-Thurge/Archmage?

I will likey be avoiding Dispel Magic because my Caster level is 3 levels below the other casters in our party, who handle most of the dispelling that is needed. I agree that Evard's Black Tentacles and Wall of Force would be good choices as they are usefull and scale well at higher levels. I...

What Quickened Spell-Like Abilities for Mystic-Thurge/Archmage?

We are only using the core 3.5 books for the campaign, so no Complete Divine allowed sadly. The Spell-Like Ability High Arcana that an Archmage can get allows the Archmage to permanently prepare one of his arcane spells as a spell-like ability that can be used twice per day. Per the...

    Starting at 0 level

A 1st level commoner gets +0 BAB, and +0 to all saves, 1d4 hitpoints, and 2+Intx4 skill points per the DMG. What I would personally do is give everyone one level of Commoner as a FREE class. In other words, the level of commoner doesn't count toward their character level. All they are...

What Quickened Spell-Like Abilities for Mystic-Thurge/Archmage?

Hey All, I am playing in a 3.5 conversion of the Night Below. We are currently fighting in the city of the Glasspool, and progressing rapidly due to fighting very dangerous opponents (we took out a CR 19 Mindflayer last night). One of my characters is a Mystic Theurge (Druid/Conjurer) that I...
