Heroic Feats: where are the "gimmes"?

It's not defenders, it's melee characters. Rogues and rangers have no problem filling up their feat selections, for instance. Incidentally, leather armor proficiency is very much a "gimme" feat for a wizard. The improved pact boons are kinda nice for the warlock, as is skill training in...

    Avenging Paladin Weapon Selection

All those [W]s aren't going to look so great when the attack misses. With a greatsword that'll happen less often. Also, if you're favoring Charisma over Strength as many paladins do, using a heavy blade means you can make up for your weaker OAs with Blade Opportunist and later Heavy Blade...

Explain to me why are these feats good?

Only one at-will pushes the target, and you can't use it with a polearm. If you're a fighter, your OAs already halt the target's movement. Being able to halt it and then push it back a square can be handy, but it's not that big of a boost. Er... does this have anything to do with Heavy Blade...

    Powers and Retraining

A tight-assed reading of the rules might prevent you from retraining the level 1 power you picked at level 3 into a level 3 power, but I certainly would let you retrain into the highest level of power you could have picked originally. The whole point of retraining is that making a bad decision...

Explain to me why are these feats good?

If you hit with 50% of your attacks, then Scimitar Dance is doing damage equal to your Dex mod on half your attacks, and Weapon Focus is doing 2 damage on half your attacks. If your Dex is 16 or more, that makes Scimitar Dance better than Weapon Focus, no? (At epic, it needs to be 18 or more...

Divine Challenge + Certain Justice = Solo Killer?

I would've said that Certain Justice is in dire need of an errata, but it has an errata that doesn't weaken it at all. Go figure. It's pretty plainly broken, if you ask me. I say let the party win this fight with it, but then explain that using the power as written makes it impossible for you...

New eladrin fighter powers: light blades required. Eh?

Light blades make more sense for eladrin, if you ask me. You could just have the new powers work with longswords, but I'd leave the powers as they are and change the eladrin racial proficiency to rapiers instead of longswords. (And change Wizard of the Spiral Tower too, I suppose.)

    Questions about 4th edition

    1) At each level where a wizard gets to learn a daily or utility power, he instead learns two powers of that level and puts them in his spellbook. Each day he chooses one power from each of those pairs and can use that power but not the other. 2) The different damage types have no effect...

    Pelor's Radiance vs. Turn Undead

Pelor's Radiance is a lot more useful for paladins, who don't normally get any sort of turning.

help understanding abilities scores and weapons

All fighter attacks are based on Strength. The other attributes come into play for secondary effects on a few powers and for feat prerequisites. When they name Wisdom as the polearm attribute, it's really just because of Polearm Gamble, as far as I can tell. Each polearm is also part of a...

Well that didn't take long, wizard has been shelved.

AC isn't always 2-3 points higher than Fortitude, and it isn't always 2-3 points higher than Reflex, but it's almost always 2-3 points higher than at least one of them. (Leaving Will aside for the moment since wizards need a Dragon article to target Will without expending an encounter or daily.)

    Cleric Optimized For Healing

Though it's still not a bad feat - skill training plus an extra emergency heal. If you have any interest in any of the warlord skills, and you aren't planning on taking another multiclass feat, it's a good pick.

    Warlock, which pact is best?

You can take out-of-pact dailies at no penalty, but taking out-of-pact encounter powers means you don't get the extra Int-based benefit. Which is sort of annoying since the point of investing in only one of Con or Cha is to have a higher Int... but it might be the best way anyway since you need...

    Two-Weapon Fighting Rules?

Punching bags don't hit back. Get in an actual fight and see how well you do just trying to swing your arms as fast as you can. :p

    Two-Weapon Fighting Rules?

I'm just sad that they kept the "two weapons = extra attacks" thing even for just one class. It's such a ridiculous mental image, some guy with a sword in each hand flailing away with both arms in front of him like that...

I don't optimize. Forked Thread: Dragon Magazine #365's Character Concepts

I like optimizing, not so I can make the strongest character possible, but so I can take an offbeat concept and make it work as well as the straightforward characters.

    Small Characters and Weapons

So what? Seriously. Why is this important? Halflings have classes they're good at and classes they're not good at, just like every other race. So they're not good at certain classes in a way that no other race is not good at the classes it's not good at. It's not a significant distinction...

Dragon Magazine #365's Character Concepts: Masterful optimization advice by WotC

By the letter of the rules, multiclass feats make you count as a member of that class only for the purpose of meeting feat or paragon path prerequisites, not for epic destiny prerequisites. I'd totally allow it for a warlock[wizard], though.
