Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [OOC 01]

Damn... this has been an... underwhelming first skirmish for Cam.

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [IC 01]

Cam dances backwards from the blow and returns in kind, but again the orc catches the blade against the guard of his broadsword and drives it wide.

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [OOC 01]

I reflexively default to THAC0, even with 1st ed, the math works the same, especially for a fighter class. The AC 15 comment was more regarding just how cruddy the roll was. :p

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [IC 01]

Cam lets go of his bowstring and draws his sword, parrying the orcs blow with hit. He attacks on the riposte driving the tip of his longsword towards the beasts throat. Presumably AC 15 is gonna be a miss.

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [IC 01]

Cam grimaces and draws his string back leveling his bow towards the orcish muggers. "If they didn't have a hostage I'd be sure I could, but I'm worried about hitting him... Can someone disable the lot of em?"

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [IC 01]

Cam gets to his feet after Shiyana and follows her out of the door. He places his hand on her shoulder and gently steps in front of her, keeping the inn to their backs. "Stay behind me. The Circle said I was supposed to keep you from getting killed". He lays an arrow across his bow and...

    Research about table top RPG

I'd agree. A more accurate measure might be to ask what year a person started gaming in. 74, 81, 90, 99, 05. That would give you a pretty good idea of what edition they started with. Or better yet, just ask what edition of D&D they began with. Whitebox Holmes "Redbox" (either Metzer or...

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [OOC 01]

It should only be a major issue for the first 2 or 3 levels. After that, the exponential rate of growth with XP requirements should even things out. In my F2F game for example my single classed dwarf fighter is only 1 level ahead of our multiclass fighter/MU

Leif's "Hold of the Sea Princes" Greyhawk Alpha Game [AD&D 1E] [OOC 01]

Can do, though I'll make his proficiency with Longbow and eat the -3 penalty with shortbows until he can afford to buy one. We can just assume that he broke his longbow recently and is currently using a 'backup' or something.

Reminiscing, Re:AD&D (Games 1 & 2 in progress in Playing the Game Forum....)

It'll be interesting to see the City State among the Sea Princes. Nearly every other time I've seen it planted in to Greyhawk it's been on the main continent.

Oh, and regarding my posting schedule, I'm a Jr. High teacher so my schedule is sort of all over the place. At certain times (like report cards) I might as well fall off the edge of the world, but otherwise I'll be able to post throughout the week and on weekends. I'll make sure to give as...

I'd actually interpret it as him having 18, not 20. He does get 2D8 at first level, but the Con modifier would only be applied once.

Ok, I'm in then, sweet. I tend to play fighter types, and it looks like we're a little light on the heavy metal end of things. Out of curiosity, are we using weapons vs. armour rules? Weapon speed? I noticed that Odo has secondary skills too so I assume those are in? What's your...

I'll throw my hat in as an alternate. I'll follow the posts. If I might allow one suggestion that I have found moves a PBP along quite well is that the DM rolls initiative for everyone. It can sometimes take several days just to organize the beginning of a combat round otherwise.

D&D 3.x How is this going to work? BECMI & 3.5 & 4e players all at once?

NWP's were 2nd edition actually. BECMI called them General Skills. Also just as a point, BECMI attributes tended to be significantly lower, since you were rolling 3d6 in order.

    More Movement In Combat!

I'm not totally opposed to the idea, but I must admit that the combat movement in 4th really didn't make me a happy bunny. On numerous occasions it felt as though a fight would turn into a massive game of pinball. Once a few powers that forced movement were in play all of a sudden people were...

Time for WotC to start officially supporting older editions?

But what would supporting an old edition entail? Would they reprint the core books and keep them in print? I could see that being useful with 1st edition or the Rules Cyclopedia/BECMI but how about 2nd edition? Are the Skills and Powers books core? How about the complete series? The...
