[RCFG] The Eyes of Mellythese (Playtest)

"Though they may speak for themselves, I am not hesitant in introducing Angbran Iron-Nose and John Greyson, two fine sirs. As for our purpose on this island, we are yet debating this amongst ourselves. Perhaps your arrival will help us to discover our true aims, yes? Maybe they are aligned with...

    Mearls: The core of D&D

And thus, the more healing surges that you add to a character (or give a character access to, as you suggest), the more encounters that character can participate in. The 4e designers expected 4 encounters per day, but my group expects 6 - 12 encounters per day, so we use healing surges to meet...

I call back, "Greetings returned, sir. We find ourselves disadvantaged that you are asking about us first, since our questions for you are the same." "Nevertheless... I call myself Palamon, and you are welcome to do the same."

    Mearls: The core of D&D

But I defined Healing Surges and Second Winds exactly as they are used in 4e. Hey, I've admitted elsewhere that I am uneasy with the concept of healing surges. You just made an inexplicable claim that they somehow lead to a shorter adventuring day. I literally could not believe it. I mean if...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

We've been subscribing since the beginning. It started at about $50 a year I think, and now it's right around $77 a year, if I remember right.

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

As was said previously, the market is saturated with the core books. Also, there has been a dearth of 4e material recently. Normally my friends and I would be buying the Player's Handbook 4 or some other supplement, but we can't because WotC hasn't been releasing anything. But we are still...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder outselling D&D

Not surprised by this. Given the dearth of published WotC products recently, I wouldn't be surprised if "Bob's Random RPG" outsold D&D the last couple of months. It's not hard to beat a publisher who actually isn't publishing anything, and that is all Paizo has really done.

    Mearls: The core of D&D

Let me clarify my point. Let's say you take 3.5 exactly as it is with regards to the healing system. Now add one additional healing mechanic -- healing surges. In addition to regular 3.5 healing, characters can spend their healing surges, of which they have a limited number, to regain 1/4 their...

[RCFG] The Eyes of Mellythese (Playtest)

I'll put the coin away and keep my spear readied, though it seems we'll have to forgo our element of surprise this time. I nudge one of the others, "Does anyone want to be hailing them before they spot us, so that they know that we do not attempt to ambush them?"

The sorcerer arches one of his long black eyebrows, "As you wish." As we wait for our friends to arrive, which I think is a few more minutes yet, I'll go ahead and casually pull out the foreign coin we found earlier, in order to examine it more carefully. I'm trying to determine which country...

[RCFG] The Eyes of Mellythese (Playtest)

DM, does it seem likely that the old fieldstone wall would completely obscure us from the road if we all lay behind it? Also, is it within a few hundred feet, and do I believe can we reach it relatively quickly and silently? If so, I quietly lay out the following plan before my comrades...

What is the roadway leading towards in the south? Presumably back towards the beach landing described at the beginning? Palamon takes the time to search the area for signs of passage, more discarded items, or other features of interest. He'll encourage his allies to do the same.

RCK, would it be equally valid for me to assume either that the eight rubies may each be hidden in different spots on the island or that they may also be hidden all together in the same location? In other words, do I have any reason to suspect one possibility over the other?

[RCFG] The Eyes of Mellythese (Playtest)

"If amongst the trees we go stumbling," I comment, motioning to the woods, "We are not likely to discover our prize, I think. If we follow this path, we are likely to be finding something at the end of it, yes, whether for ill or for gain." "And also, we are yet retaining our right to...

RCK, could you give us a crude map of our options, so we can better see what our options entail. Thanks. Also, you say the eastward path would take 20 minutes to come close to the woods. About how long do you think it would take to transverse the roughly 1500 yards if we went straight from here...

Palamon follows the others up to join John on the surface, necessarily discarding the torches before climbing. I take a long look around at the new scene, and sigh under my breath "More choices, yes?" Thinking of the quest that brought me to this place, I wonder if there is anything else I...

    Mearls: The core of D&D

I just thought of the alternative that you seem to advocate, and would give it a playtest, except the outcome is obvious. The alternative to having healing surges, of course, being not having healing surges. My theoretical playtest with each character having 0 healing surges would inevitably...

Palamon motions to the handholds, allowing whichever of his allies be bravest or surest to climb first, unless any are inclined to turn back and explore a previous route. "If you are the one to be ascending first, Greyson-sir, please allow me to be holding your torch. Unless our halfling...

"Your point is a good one, Greyson-sir. I think we will be remembering Angbran-sir's vision talents more readily in the future. Already though, we have lost need of them for now. Nevertheless..." I begin to search for a sign of egress, particularly one that might have been used by our...
