    Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook

3 out of 5 rating for Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook As an update of the 3.5E rules, Pathfinder does a good job, smoothing out some of the system's rough points and adding well-written material. The system itself is comprehensive but complex, and takes a lot of mechanical know-how to play or run...

    D&D 5E (2014) Silly/Senseless Rules You Have Found

It is. Defensive Duelist lets you add your proficiency bonus to your AC against one attack as a reaction. Sure, it requires finesse weapons, but that's not too much of a stretch.

    D&D 5E (2014) Getting advantage, forcing disadvantage

Note that while being grappled doesn't grant advantage, being prone does - and a grappled, prone creature can't stand up unless it escapes the grapple, because that requires movement.

D&D 5E (2014) What classes getting used at your table?

My group has a Vengeance Paladin, Battlemaster Fighter, Tempest Cleric, Four Elements Monk, and Shadow Monk.

D&D 5E (2014) Could DungeonScape be D&D's Duels of the Planeswalkers?

As a disciple of two of Wizards' flagship games, it's actually pretty interesting to compare the marketing strategies of D&D to Magic: the Gathering. While D&D seems to have had a mixed record in terms of profits, Magic by many accounts is a huge cash cow for the company. They seem to have hit...

    D&D 5E (2014) DungeonScape Beta Gloat Thread

To those who are in the beta: may I ask what class/race/background options are available to mess around with? I'm eagerly awaiting my chance to join and give feedback. This set of software looks like it could be immensely helpful for me as a DM as well as my players.

D&D 5E (2014) Access to Ability Boosting Items in your game

Hi everyone, Based on the DM's Basic Rules PDF, there are at least three items in the game that set one of your ability scores to 19: Amulet of Health (Constitution), Gauntlets of Ogre Power (Strength), and the Headband of Intellect (Intelligence). The concern has been raised that these items...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swarm of Books

Tehehe. I love the "False Appearence" ability. Also, all of that makes perfect sense; thanks! I suppose it's reasonable to allow slashing weapons to deal normal damage, and perhaps even bludgeoning ones. I was thinking of that "master index" you described - if the PCs can figure out which book...

    D&D 5E (2014) Swarm of Books

About to run a "lost library" adventure for my group of level 5 PCs, so I whipped up this monster (they will be fighting two of them for a "Hard" encounter XP total). Swarm of Books Large swarm of Tiny constructs, unaligned ------------ Armor Class 14 Hit Points 90 (12d10+12) Speed 0 ft., fly...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the "coolest" abilities in 5e?

The Tempest Cleric's Stormborn - the winds themselves carry you where you want to go. The Warlock's Mask of Many Faces. Thanks to your dark gift, you can change your identity the way most people change clothes. The Battle Master Fighter's Know Your Enemy. Basically, you get to look at someone...

D&D 5E (2014) What do you think a psychic class should look like in 5e?

I like that! So a psychic character could start out with a Feather Fall-like ability, then gain the ability to upgrade it into Levitation after a few levels, then cap it off with Fly (not necessarily the exact spell effects, but something like this).

D&D 5E (2014) Real XP, Building XP and Actual Play

The current EB guidelines are kind of borked. For example, the encounters in the first part of Lost Mine of Phandelver come out as "Deadly, "Hard," "Beyond Deadly (1.5x Deadly)," "Hard," and "Beyond Deadly (1.75x Deadly)." Yet my group of 4 PCs made it through without any casualties, although...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock: Best Designed Caster?

Exactly! I wish more caster classes hit that balance between simplicity and options. Very true! If I get to play in a 5E game (I ran most of LMoP this summer, but that's been it so far), my first character will likely be a Warlock. I will be playing in another campaign, but one with ongoing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock: Best Designed Caster?

Huh. It's interesting to hear some actual play reports - I can see how resource management might actually be a big drag on the class. I also agree that some of the 1/day invocations are really lame - when building a pregen Warlock I thought "Hm, do I want to cast bane once this adventure or have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlock: Best Designed Caster?

I've built quite a few D&D 5E characters over the past few weeks (got to love that fresh, new Player's Handbook) and I've come to the conclusion that the Warlock is the cleanest and most fun of the full casters to build. Why? It has a very focused and limited selection of spells. When I play a...

D&D 5E (2014) [Tyranny Of Dragons] What character are you playing?

I feel you! I want to run the adventure but I have character concepts in mind as well. The first is a Human Warlock with the Guild Merchant background. He's a kid - about 14 years old - but Lawful Evil. Like Joffery (Game of Thrones) but more conniving. His parents were in the Cult of the...

D&D 5E (2014) Ask me Monster Manual questions!

Oh man. Would you mind posting the CRs of the other devils? If not, what are the CRs of the other devils in the book?

D&D 5E (2014) Ask me Monster Manual questions!

What is the range of CRs for Devils? (That is, what is the lowest Devil CR and what is the highest?) Need to know for a game I'm planning.

    D&D 5E (2014) Contagion and Boss Fights

Normally, it would solve the problem. However, the way Contagion is written the effect automatically applies, and the creature can't get out of it until it takes three turns making saves. Sure, the legendary creature can take auto-succeed on all three of those saves, but it still locks them down...

D&D 5E (2014) My New Players Have Quit 5th Edition

I think Agamon has the right idea of it here. In any edition of D&D, an on-level encounter designed for a party with 4-5 members has the potential to steamroll a party with 2 members. WotC certainly could have done a better job advising DMs on rebalancing the encounters for a small party, but if...
