    Dark Sun in Dungeon #110

So I'm sittin' here watching Star Trek II and I started wondering... Since the Eugenics Wars didn't occur, genetic engineering is about 50 years behind Roddenberry's vision, cryogenics still just a theory, and the Botany Bay never launching in 1996 with its renegade "super humans" onboard...

Cosmic Entities of the Transitive Planes

One possibility is the Scarred Lands' Demigoddess of Shadow (introduced in Creature Collection [1] and expanded upon in The Divine and Defeated) as the high-up for the Plane of Shadow. Aside from her and the Githyanki Lich Queen, that's about all I can recall.

    Drow Rod of Tentacles

This is true, although it seems to be hinted at in Monster Mythology; Compare the entries for "The Dark God" and the Elder Elemental Evil God, and then compare the entry for "The Dark God" to references of Tharizdun in The [Forgotten?] Temple of Tharizdun. It seemed to me, after the release of...

How do your Gods get Power?

Through worship... The easiest way to slay a deity is to slay all of their worshippers and ensure that the religion doesn't become active again. The campaign I'm working on is focused on this premise: Being a multi-world cosmos, akin to The Prime in 1E/2E, a psionic-based empire will have...

    Plots behind the plot

Generally, I define certain parameters of the game. First, it is a "living world". This means that laws, politics, religious movements, cultural influences, treaties, alliances, espionage, blackmail, and covert operations are always in motion. These things are usually in the background, but...

    He-Man d20?

I posted a possible Eternian-inspired campaign a few months back... It went along the lines of: Characters are "living gods". Using standard D&D rules, average Joe on the street has stats ranging as 1d6+6, where as the major players (the "Masters" and the villains) were rolled for as normal...

What are the most useful books you've ever used?

Aside from the Core Rules (being the Aedon Heroes' Lorebook, Veiled Lorebook, and Bestiary ;) )... Hmmm... On a page count vs pages used ratio, I'm going to go with Alchemy & Herbalists (Bastion). Great material, helps fill in some of the "gaps" left from lowering the magic level. Books...

    Drow Rod of Tentacles

    Also in The Harrowing.

Do you run a solo adventure?

Been playing in them for nearly 15 years and running them for nearly 7. Have three going at the moment: Myself as a PC in Oathbound (Have Army, Will Travel...), one with my wife as a PC (on its 6th year) and another for a friend (on its 3rd year, although this one's gone to a PBEM because I...

    Drow Rod of Tentacles

I didn't notice mention of the Dungeon issue that had Monte Cook's The Harrowing in it (a daughter of Loth stirring up trouble), which is where I think the 3E version first appeared. By chance, can someone determine if these different versions are all the same, or if the different sources have...

WotC acquisition by MS press release (April fools)

We should all look at this as an opportunity... With the OGL, we can keep writing our own material. The moment we post something Microsoft likes, they'll rush in, flood us with lots of money, and buy the material to incorporate into the next version of the DnDOS (formerly known as the SRD)...

    Ability Score Generation

    Why, the Aedon Standard Array, of course: 9, 11, 11, 13, 15 & 17, arrainge as desired.

Balance... does it really matter that much to you?

Tell you what... You weren't clear enough, and I read more into it than you really meant. Peace.:)

    Dark Sun in Dungeon #110

There isn't a change of status; note that I refer to it as a "perceived" change. You own comment stating that the article "will probably carry more weight" is illustrative of this point. And it is this new interest that can be of benefit to Athas.org, as I indicated earlier. Renewed interest...

    Dark Sun in Dungeon #110

As a product line, yes, it would be a huge advantage. As an article in a single issue of a monthly magazine, though, it naturally lacks the market potential; One month of decent sales, a good number of which includes subscriptions to folks that don't care about Dark Sun either way, a handful of...

    Dark Sun in Dungeon #110

An alternate way of viewing it is that the Dragon/Dungeon material will be printed, distributed, delivered, sold, go out of print, and vanish into the past just like every other issue of Dragon and Dungeon, while Athas.org remains available, for free, and will continue to grow and prosper just...

Balance... does it really matter that much to you?

Actually, I'd say it's rather clear about what it says about balance, but that's not really the point. You indicated that "more time to do something else" was "lazyness and poor design skills talking". I'm just pointing out that the DMG actually makes the suggestion of doing so in some instances.

Balance... does it really matter that much to you?

Actually, the DMG says otherwise... Page 8, Under the header "Deep-Immersion Storytelling", paragraph 3, relevant sentance in bold: Rules become less important in this style. Since combat isn't the focus, game mechanics take a back seat to character development. Skills take precedence over...

DMs: Do you let your players do over the top things?

Better watch that torch... The tide's commin' in.

What do you buy if you can't buy magic?

Given this quality of your game, I give a big "ditto" on hiring Mercenaries. If the GM's going to railroad, you might as well make him work for it.
