technically that was a dwarf made artifact.

EN World What you thought a thread title said.

It's not your fault. The new game is out and I keep forgetting what the new starter set is called.

EN World What you thought a thread title said.

For a moment I was so EXCITED that there was an actual Borderlands tie-in boxed set. ::sigh::

D&D General The rapier in D&D

Is the rapier really any less appropriate than a hand crossbow or a lucern hammer for fighting dragons.

    D&D 5E (2024) Predict WotC's 2026 D&D releases

Whatever the Xanathar's/Tasha's killer is -- a supplement updating most of the material from those books, bringing them in-line with D&D 2024/5.

Name an TTRPG You Really Like But Have Never Played/GMed

I think the analysis fun happens off screen, as it does for Diablo or whatever.

Except it is binary, arbitrary, lacks any real advice on adjudication and is easily abused. Making Skill check results interesting and cool is entirely on the GM in 5E. Which is fine if you have a good GM, but that's true of literally everything.

    Acquisitions Inc. switching to Daggerheart

That's... not something I ever expected to read. And what happens on a success? What are the limitations? What does the entry for the skill look like? How is it better than a feat or spell? While I don't doubt that you feel that way, you really haven't made a particularly compelling case. Not...

    Acquisitions Inc. switching to Daggerheart

Can you give me an example of a "cool dynamic" ability from Cosmere. i am having trouble imagining a "skill check" that is inherently cool and dynamic.

    Acquisitions Inc. switching to Daggerheart

I think this is overstating it. Players and GMs do have to look up Persuasion, for example, because there are varying degrees of success based on intitial conditions and the like. What is the Persuasion chart on the DM Screen if not effectively a "card." Moreover, players like cool abilities...

I mean, it is the discussion we are having right now. I am not sure I buy that complex critical tables being run by the VTT are going to "detach players from the game." I think it is more likely that players who like those elements will get to have them because everyone else at the table doesn't...

They don't have to appeal to you. It isn't like they cost extra. My point is people that use "ew cards" as a point against DH are wrong.

Having cards for reference is not deckbuilding.

Why not? Computer games do this stuff all the time.

People should certainly be polite, but words also have meaning.

Right, but have we reached a technological point where we can actually have and appreciate that in a TTRPG and not have it drag the game down?

They are purely optional but also highly utilitarian. They help players who are bad at reading sheets and/or keeping options available in their heads. They are an accessibility tool, not a system requirement, if that makes sense.

I wonder: is the problem just the difficulty in doing all the rolling? If so, it seems like apps or VTTs could solve that and RPGs with crunchy, granular combat would make a resurgence.

That is the only Rolemaster I have ever had a chance to run. I liked it.
