    Assassin Mechanics Questions

A quarry target isn't necessarily aware of it, since Hunter's Quarry isn't a power, it's just a designation by the Ranger. I'd allow it to be used on an unaware target secretly. The Curse I'm less sure of, though.

Aside from Expertise, what are the most commonly acknowledged feat-tax feats?

Chain for Con Shamans/Con and Cha Starlocks/Str and Wis Rangers can be considered a feat tax. I award it for free in my games. EDIT: Also, melee training for some Swordmages, Paladins and Battleminds.

What are a Spirit Companion's defenses?

Yep! You should check out the rules for conjurations in the back of the PH2, they'll help a lot. Also, figure out with your DM now whether they'll allow the spirit to move vertically, to save a headache later. (There's no clear RAW either way, although it can definitely float in the air.)

    Assassin Mechanics Questions

There is, in fact, a feat for that: Hidden Insight. It's a stupid, tax-y feat for an ability that should be inherent to the shroud mechanic, but it exists nonetheless.

Best 11th level and under rituals?

Knew I forgot something. Grab it yesterday.

Best 11th level and under rituals?

Transfer Enchantment is a priority. Enchant Magic Item is also handy. After that, I'd say: -Linked Portal -Inquisitive's Eyes (magic bullet for murder mysteries) -Hand of Fate (dirt-cheap divination) -Sending -Animal Messenger (discount snail mail Sending) EDIT: And of course Remove Affliction...

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

Man, I wish I had spread out my XP a bit more, this totally deserved one.

    Age

The Druid and Monk's Timeless Body ability gives you perpetual youth (equally as important as lifespan), then you can combine with Reincarnation or Last Breath as mentioned before.

    2 shaman SC question

I'd tend to agree with this, but then Wizards pulls out Moment of Glory: The wording is exactly the same as Prot Roots, but it's kind of impossible to be in your own (non-arcane) close blast...

Monk To Hit- I don't get it, weak?

Also rogues are very accurate, with that dagger bonus. But they're usually attacking AC.

    Concerned about paladins.

Virtue's Touch is a very nice option for a Pally as well, since stunned is such a nasty effect. Even Clerics and Shamans can use the MC feat, since it only needs 15 Wisdom.

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

...Why? If a monster doesn't trigger your mark, it means it missed. Monsters missing is a good thing, it wastes their turn. If they hit, whether or not you punish them they still hurt someone who isn't you, and they might well inflict a nasty status effect or even drop them.

What is, by consensus opinion, obviously broken?

As a frequent CO board visitor, I take umbrage at this. If a game has a sufficient spread of options, some will be better and some will be worse. CharOp exists to figure out which is which. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to have an effective character, and CharOp is a good way to...

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

The point of a defender isn't to constantly punish the marked enemy, it's to put the enemy into a lose-lose situation. If the SM's mark isn't triggering, that means their mark is attacking them--and they have higher defenses/are tougher than the non-defender party members, no? Sounds like he's...

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

The fact that it's a reaction, so you can't even use it to negate close hits is definitely a shame.

Why are there no sneaky leaders?

Here's a fun one: a level 16 Elf Watcher Shaman, built around being stealthy and making her allies stealthy too. +33 Stealth all the time, and +38 with her spirit next to her. ====== Created Using Wizards of the Coast D&D Character Builder ====== Enna, level 16 Elf, Shaman, Ghost Panther...

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

Of course. I never got that far away. It was mostly the way that I didn't need to do anything to sustain it that frustrated him.

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

I should have mentioned there was a barbarian in the way! But that does raise a good point, in that Swordmages tend to do better in parties with another defender. I'd only recommend a Shielding one as a party's sole defender, and even then I wouldn't be totally comfortable.

Why are there no sneaky leaders?

The assassin MC is not great for a leader, but there's nothing wrong with it, either.

Does the swordmage marking power suck?

Not even a bit: The Warden can't punish shifting. Granted, they can prevent it with some guardian forms... I've played Shielding and Assault Swordmages, and they were both fun. As noted, the optimal strategy is to mark one enemy and then go off and attack another--one reason Assaultmages are...
