But undead may be incorporeal. Also, it feels weird to me that artificers can repair undead

There's a part of me that wants there to be one spell for objects/constructs, and another for undead, as those feel like very different kinds of magic to me. Although the spell that assists undead would need some other kind of utility boost.

It continues to function unless the text is doing something like tying it to the area described by their prestige rating.

I suppose that would depend on what you specifically want to mix and match, and what other systems you're trying to get it to work with. Can you give us some examples so we can give you better answers?
