D&D 5E (2024) What new jargon do you want to replace "Race"?

In light of Cadence's post, and to not re-litigate dozens of locked threads, I will leave this particular topic with: I think there is enormous room for interesting differentiation, that won't lead to criticism, without using locked ASIs. Those are first and worst boring, and barely serve that...

D&D 5E (2024) What do you want to see from the bastion system?

Maybe you list these things for this exact reason, but have you checked out MCDM's Strongholds and Followers book?

D&D 5E (2024) What new jargon do you want to replace "Race"?

There's a big difference between saying Dragonborn can breathe fire, and every Gnome starts out smarter than every Human.

D&D 5E (2024) What new jargon do you want to replace "Race"?

That's generally not what people who are seriously bothered by their characterization would contend they are presented as.

    GM Confessional

I don't know if this is a user facing feature, but if you can edit the thread title, you might want to add a + to it.

I adore read aloud text. I'll pre-write my own if I'm fairly confident an area will be visited and really want to sell the importance/visual/fantasy of it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Pick an Archetype

Artificer: Artillerist - The cannon just seems like so much fun. Barbarian: Path of the Ancestral Guardian - I've played three barbarians, and they've all been Totem Warriors. Time to mix up. Love that it has one of the best frontliner control abilities right off. Bard: College of Eloquence -...

D&D Movie/TV New D&D Honor Among Thieves poster.

Maybe it's an Inception-hallway-spinning-style scene because the cat knocked the minis off of the table.

WotC Hasbro Bets Big on D&D

Like I said, I'm not personally advocating that. I just understand that someone could have that fear. Especially if you're someone who has already been disappointed by recent releases.

D&D General Chekhov's Gun and the Hickman Revolution- What Type of Campaign Do You Run?

I mean, there's an art to tragedy, where generally everyone can tell exactly what's going to happen, and it all feels earned. But, admittedly, in the Cherry Orchard, also by Chekov: I would agree that it's not a good rule if it's not broken sometimes. And sometimes, the way the gun "fires" is...

WotC Hasbro Bets Big on D&D

The potential downside that comes from this model, which to be clear I'm not arguing is inherent or likely, is that it could encourage rushing out meagre splat-books with one or two new player options apiece primarily so it can be sold as an online feature, and tanking the quality.

D&D 5E (2024) What new jargon do you want to replace "Race"?

I imagine they're using that term to mean: the intrinsic value of a sapient being in a shared world. That's definitely a perk of that term, and part of why I've come around to it as this discussion has gone on.

    D&D General The DM Shortage

I don't think they're pointing to age at all. I think all they're saying here is that someone is more likely to fall into the OSR scene if they've played 5e (or other D&D edition) and gotten tired/frustrated with it, or they have a friend who feels that way, as opposed to coming across OSR as...

D&D General Do you want a 3D vtt?

I voted maybe, because I see using it for a one-off, or a curiosity, but it would never replace my standard play.

WotC Hasbro Bets Big on D&D

I was responding specifically to the idea that it's weird people who buy one rulebook are resistant to spending more money, and that my mindset is pretty set against that, not that I do expect that aspect of them to change.

D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on the revised Ardling?

Would love a plant schmorp. Somewhat related, I think there's definitely design space between genasi and warforged for something interesting.

WotC Hasbro Bets Big on D&D

I'll admit, I might look foolish later, but for how I play the game, I can not imagine a subscription ever benefiting me more than the current model.
