D&D 3.x [3.5] Cool magic items for fighter, around 7000 gp or less?

Question about that. The feat says, "Select any maneuver from the chosen discipline for which you meet the prerequisites." I'm not familiar enough with the book to be sure I'm doing this correctly, but it appears to me that I can take the feat and select a 9th level maneuver that has no...

D&D 3.x [3.5] Cool magic items for fighter, around 7000 gp or less?

It's not my place to push her into something else. She's learning, and I'm fine supporting that. She wanted to try a fighter, so I'm going to try to find ways to make an enjoyable fighter for her. (By the way, Crown of White Ravens? Awesome. THANK YOU.)

D&D 3.x [3.5] Cool magic items for fighter, around 7000 gp or less?

This is great! Thanks guys. I am about to crack open ToB and see about these effects for 3000 gp. Also, the magic item sets are up next. Thanks for the ideas. Keep 'em coming!

D&D 3.x [3.5] Cool magic items for fighter, around 7000 gp or less?

I have a friend who normally plays a paladin or a good ranger that acts like a paladin. She is in a new campaign with me, and is trying something outside of her comfort zone: she is playing a pure fighter, chaotic neutral. She is upset with the paucity of skill points. I tried to explain...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Collection of Tactic & Strategies

If you intend to multiclass, always make the skilled class be your first. The first level your character takes is front-loaded with all those skill points, which you never will get again in that volume. So if you are a fighter/rogue, first level should be rogue, to take advantage of the huge...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 Rule Oddities

Smoke inhalation is similar. Though it's possible to stop the smoke inhalation, once it starts it's very hard to stop it. From the SRD: The problem? Once you fail a save, you are denied an action to move away from the smoke which forces you to have to make another save the next round...

    Pathfinder 1E Flight in Pathfinder

You know, something you could do would be to ask him what it would take to get the kind of flight you expected. Describe it, describe what you expect it to do, and then ask, "So, in your game, how do I get this to work?" Put it on him to explain it, because then if you do it his way, he can't...

    Pathfinder 1E Flight in Pathfinder

I agree. I used to be sorta difficult when a DM broke a rule that he allegedly followed. I'd break out the book, and rules-lawyer him a bit. Nowadays I'm waaaaay more relaxed. In our last game, the DM had someone take a move action and then delay. A player turned to me and said, "Can he do...

    Flat-Footed

It's one thing to grapple with a problem and think it through. It's quite another thing to let it grapple you. I feel like this whole issue might be getting away from you. I hope I'm wrong. Therein lies madness. The game cannot be perfectly simulationist; verisimilitude is about the best we...

    How strict with Hide checks?

I always thought that in 3.5 edition, the Spot check itself determined your facing. If you rolled low, it implied that you were observing something else, or had your eyes closed, or your back turned, or whatever. If you got a 30 on your Spot, clearly you were looking right at the door, noticed...

    Flat-Footed

Now that I've read the OP's follow-up post, I want to come at this from a slightly different angle. It appears that you're now engaged in a back-and-forth debate with the guy. He's lured you in, and we've now bought into his premise that the rule must be justified, and we're all now working...

    New DM looking for advice...

Note that I've not read the other replies yet. If anything I write is redundant, I apologize. Maybe it'll reinforce that some things are commonly successful? :erm: I know the saying "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog," so I'm aware that I cannot expect every poster to be highly...

    How strict with Hide checks?

Rogue casts blur on himself. This grants concealment. Rogue rolls for hide, then sneak attacks the enemy right in front of him. Yes?

Castles are worthless against armies with mages?

I just want to say that this thread is awesome. I have been fascinated by the discussion, and I've bookmarked it. Should I ever wish to write my own modules, you can bet that the keeps & castles I build will incorporate at least some of these concepts. Thanks all. Carry on.

Castles are worthless against armies with mages?

To be fair, if you're going to enforce the range increments, then you have to enforce the size increments, too. Inanimate objects have a base AC of 3, and then you figure in the size modifier, too. A colossal object has -8 to AC, and is 30' wide. The keep in Into the Wilds, for example, is...

    Group Dynamics: Min/Max vs RPers

OK. Well, if that works for you, then that works for you. I guess I would address my comments then to any other DMs reading this forum. I would simply say that I would be really grateful if DMs would try being up front, direct, and non-draconian, first. Thanks for your consideration.

    Group Dynamics: Min/Max vs RPers

Why pursue something even you admit is draconian, when you have other pleasant options? Dandu is advocating for a resolution that isn't draconian and doesn't piss off the player. His solution doesn't end with people leaving the game upset. Why would that be a bad thing? Why would you think...

    Cleric boost: was it intentional?

So I asserted to a friend that the cleric was designed to have lots of powers and options, because "nobody wants to play the healer." My friend replied, "Says who? There was no intention to design it that way." So I Googled it. I found lots of people asserting that the cleric is powerful so...

    Group Dynamics: Min/Max vs RPers

Good catch. I don't feel disparaged. I feel like conceding that you're almost certainly right. I completely forgot that Devotion feats can swap for domain powers. That's a brilliant tactical move for someone doing skirmish damage.
