D&D 5E (2014) Setting up a Dungeons and Dragons Club at my Local Library

These tokens are pretty great. https://diceofrolling.com/products/battle-tokens There's one for every character class (except artificer), plus a selection of monster-suitable ones. I see that they've added a dragon token + expander since I bought my set.

Drizzt's Daughter Gets Audible-Exclusive Book Launching This Week

My wife has been on a kick of listening to or reading audiobooks and has gotten into some of the stuff that's adjacent to urban fantasy. Apparently old elf/vampire/lycanthrope/secretly a dragon/secret king/etc. etc. meets younger woman is a pretty common plot line. Meh.

D&D General Bricks & Minifigs World Record TTRPG Event

Stats were rolled (4d6b3) and I had 17, 14, 12, 8, 8, 7. I ended up playing a bard! This is the first time I have been a PLAYER instead of a DM IRL in over a year and a half. My party ended up being: My bard Another bard (the player was a bit confused by DNDB defaulting to 5.24 rules; he went...

D&D 5E (2014) Give me ideas for a really simple boost to martial characters [2014]

I added Cleave Through in my current in person game. We have a swprd-wielding rogue, NPC fighter (run by a player), cleric who uses the Flail of the Ages a lot, and a sorcerer. In 41ish sessions, Cleave Through has been remembered exactly 0 times. Too situational and fiddly. The big boost is...

D&D General Possible or possibly terrible? wildly different approach to random encounters

I think this could work, or it could flop. The devil's going to be in the details and how you handle it with the players. I think it's worth discussing with them and giving it a try. Having some mechanical benefits helps, also. "You remember picking up a strange spear wielded by the...

D&D 5E (2014) ADHD friendly character sheet design

After a discussion in the Weapon Mastery/Complexity thread, I was listening to Ginny D's D&D with ADHD video and realized that my cleric who can't remember some of his class abilities or find things quickly on his character sheet is probably ADHD or ADD. I have designed a one-page character...

D&D 5E (2024) Not loving weapon mastery with beginners

I would as well. The party tempest cleric, who's been playing the same character for 40 sessions (2-3 hours) since level 1, has NEVER used his "deal damage to someone who hit me" ability without being reminded of it. Most of the times he's used his CD to maximize lightning damage, it's been...

D&D General Bricks & Minifigs World Record TTRPG Event

Local(ish) store didn't have a lot of info, and aren't sure if they have a DM or not. I didn't volunteer this time :) I have signed up. I haven't ever participated in trying to set a world record before. I'll show up with a Tortle Deep One Warlock (salt-encrusted emissary of the seas)...

D&D General Bricks & Minifigs World Record TTRPG Event

There's one about an hour from me. I've never heard of this before, and the info page is really short on details. Anyone have more info? It would be interesting to actually play instead of just DMing in person.

D&D General Stuff 5E Did Right

Having run a campaign to epic and a couple of higher-level modules and adventurers, I'd say 5e also does high levels well. It's certainly more balanced (between classes) and easier to write fo and DM than 3.5's epic calculus.

D&D General Stuff 5E Did Right

I think the OP list is very good. I would also add flexibility and simplicity in monster creation. In 3.5, everything had to have skills, feats, and ASIs calculated to add up. When I DM'd 3.5 PBP, there were a number of enemies that I spent more than 30 minutes writing up. In 5e, all but the...

D&D General Golems With Ranged Attacks?

    Here you go.

D&D General Golems With Ranged Attacks?

How tough do you want them to be? I once did an adamantium golem. In-lore, it had stood defending an ancient grave mound for thousands of years. Nobody remembers who is buried there, and any markers have long-since been obliterated. CR 23ish and a decent solo encounter on its own. The party...

D&D 5E (2014) Never considered banning a spell before: Portho's Portal from BoET

How about a limit that you have to have been to the destination spot within the last week? That's a hard cap on the viability of long-distance transport. You can bypass it by Teleporting somewhere and then Portaling back, but at that point you're expending some higher level resources to make...

    D&D General Give me Beholders!

WOTC held a DM competition a few years ago, and I made a Beholder-themed trap for it. Perhaps you can use it! It is not for low level groups.

    D&D 5E (2014) New class niche?

Eldritch Knight, especially if you allow school-swapping (Transmutation gets you Haste, Conjuration gets you teleports, etc.). Hexblade, or Fighter X/Warlock. Artificer Armorer or Battlesmith. Arcane spells, self-buffing, and using magic weapons. Bard, Valor or Swords. 4/13 base classes have...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

I don't particularly care for it but from a "managing data" perspective it makes sense. Bets on whether or not they'll get Barbarian Rage damage bonuses in there correctly?
