    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Monsters....What should they look like?

This! PREACH ON, Brother Dausuul! This is exactly what I was hoping for. I still love to crack open my 2E Monstrous Manual and read the fluff sections, but when it comes to rules, 4E takes the cake. Melding the two would be wonderful. When I DM'd 4E, I actually used most of the fluff from...

Monsters with spell lists is not a good sign

I just noticed I can't give XP for some reason (Was I bad?!). But anyway, I am in total agreement with this. The DM should not have to hunt all over to find out what a monster does. Is this what they mean by DM "empowerment"?

    First Impressions?

They are there, but they aren't clear. Leaving too much to the DM will lead to inconsistency, which is only a little better than not having rules for it at all.

    First Impressions?

Repost from what I said on the WotC Forums So far, I really don't have too many good things to say. I do like the at-will attack spells being available for the cleric and the wizard. While I was apprehensive about the return of Vancian casting, it does seem to be okay. However, the...

So the playtest packages coming online tonight at midnight or tomorrow?

Wouldn't the more apt term be westerners, since time zones deal with longitudes, not latitudes? Or am I missing something?

So the playtest packages coming online tonight at midnight or tomorrow?

Generally, whenever the WotC website auto-updates with new content, it is at midnight EST, which has come and gone. Stuff like the Character Builder and Compendium update in the middle of the day (between 11 am and 3 pm EST). I am willing to bet that is when we will see the playtest.

So the playtest packages coming online tonight at midnight or tomorrow?

Well, it isn't up. Which I totally expected. No sense leaving it up to an automated system to deploy the playtest. Better to have it come out when it can be monitored closely, rather than leave it open to the possibility of problems that can't be fixed for twelve hours. So before people start...

So the playtest packages coming online tonight at midnight or tomorrow?

I hope I am wrong as well, but if I am right, I am not going to throw a tantrum about it.

    Rogue schemes and other classes

Am I the only one that read this and thought "Soon... soon..."?

So the playtest packages coming online tonight at midnight or tomorrow?

Midnight for where? Wizards of the Coast is based out of Renton, WA so Midnight for them is 3 AM for the East Coast. I suspect that this won't come about until around noon tomorrow. That seems to be when the Character Builder updates go through.

    D&D 5E (2014) I don't like Dragonborn: Please stay away from D&D Next.

Oh look, ANOTHER thread by ForeverSlayer that does nothing but hate on 4E. ANOTHER one. Seriously, we get it, you hate 4E so much you have a complete and utter lack of ability to let ANYTHING that it introduced into DDN. If Dragonborn aren't in the 5E PHB, it will fail at unifying the...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Because it won't let me XP you to say this, I will give you this. "I have an appointment with my neurologist." :D I have even described failed saves with the hallmarks of the different classes of hypovolemic shock.

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Well, that all depends. They are talking about flattening out hit points and what not, so potentially, 10 hp of damage could be a mortal wound no matter what level you are. It also is possible that what constitutes 10 hp of damage for a first level character might not be the same as what...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Congrats, your wife is extremely, extremely lucky. I have had people fall off barstools or fall in the bathtub that have fractured cervical vertebrae and given themselves subdural hematomas or subarachnoid hemorrhages. I recently took care of someone that was in a fight that was knocked out...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Some people complain about everything 4E, whether they actually know anything about it or not. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there was a discussion somewhere expressing outright hatred of the bloodied condition, merely because it appeared in 4E. One small problem I have had with...

    D&D 5E (2014) Does D&D Next need a Core Setting?

It certainly is possible for the game to run without an assumed setting, though because clerics serve gods, it becomes a little difficult. I would totally be okay if the books were 100% setting neutral and lacked an assumed setting if a campaign setting book was out on day one. Or even a...

[L&L] Balancing the Wizards in D&D

What would people think if the Wizard gets a feat at 1st level? They can use that feat to turn their cantrips at-will, or they can use it for whatever the heck else they want. Or perhaps instead of at-will cantrips, the wizard gains proficiency in crossbows and can use them well. That way the...

D&D 5E (2014) Do we really need D&D:Next to be the One Edition?

Need, no. Want, yes. I want something that will be the one game to rule them all, since it increases the hobby. Simply put, if D&D does well, WotC does well, which means they are more likely to leverage D&D into things like movies and video games.

    The Return of Subraces?

I could see the core having the High Elf and Wood Elf (perhaps the Drow Elf), and campaign settings having their own subraces. I could see the following happen. Most of the differences would be in proficiencies and other cultural stuff. Going off the settings I know. Forgotten Realms: Sun...

4E Fans: Could 13th Age be your Pathfinder?

Hmmm, I could stick with my DDI supported, fully compatible 4E OR I could go to a unsupported product that might not even do what 4E can do. Nope, waiting to see if 5E does what 4E could do without castrating the balance 4E had plus more. If it can't I will stick with 4E.
