D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

I don't know how to be more careful than redundantly stating multiple times in the same sentence that this was only my personal experience. Also COVID hit me fairly hard as well, I was only saying that Flu is more deadly than people realize

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

In my experience, Flu was much worse for me than COVID - I definitely vouch that Flu is more dangerous than it gets credit for

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

Obviously there is no wrong way to enjoy DnD, but for anyone who enjoys optimizing their damage output, GWM / SS were required feats, which was very bad for the game and I'm glad to see them nerfed.

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

Oh ok maybe I misunderstood that. I thought the point was that damage ceiling (i.e. optimized damage) is going up for martials (per post #122), specifically due to GWM and weapon masteries. I'd totally agree that this change helps non-optimizers by nerfing an overpowered Must Have feat, and...

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

Well yeah of course the math looks bad if you give the target a huge AC and ignore Advantage. If you built a Level 20 character without guaranteed Advantage on demand then you are doing it very wrong, with or without GWM. Even against 22 AC, that should be 16 damage per attack with GWM and...

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

Fair question, I was responding to someone who I assumed meant "more damage per round", but maybe I had that wrong. I would definitely argue that GWM is "improved" in the sense of being a much better design even if the damage is lower. The old version was overpowered, while also being very...

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

I don't see how anyone can argue that GWM is improved - can you link the math on that? I'm looking thru Treantmonk videos but only found one old one using some bad assumptions (Champion fighter, no advantage). GWM currently adds WAY more than 3-6 damage per round under most builds, which is...

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

If #2 is addressed (big IF), it would be in the DM guide so we wouldn't know yet. I wouldn't hold my breath since it's so DM dependent in terms of what type of campaign setting you're running, and WotC tends to err on the side of providing zero guidance in cases like this where providing any...

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

Yeah exactly my thoughts as well. If you REALLY love DnD then you're always going to want to DM. People will mainly prefer playing is if they are brand new (spotty stick rate) or they are experienced but don't have much time to dedicate to the hobby (can be spotty attendance, but also can be...

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

This is 100% my experience as well, I only want to play in person and have less than zero desire to play online. I always laugh when people say there is a DM shortage, this may be true online but definitely not for in person gaming. I've always found that DMs are everywhere, it's the players...

D&D 5E (2014) Caster attack roll bonus items attunement vs. attack roll bonus items of other classes

Magic Items are frequently haphazardly balanced as if someone threw a dart at a board to determine their rarity, attunement, etc. Wand of the War Mage is just one of those unfortunate cases where it's much weaker in reality than WotC initially thought. Maybe they thought that ignoring cover...

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

For some reason people seem to think "martial/caster divide" means that casters do more damage even though martial classes (plus paladins) generally already do the highest damage. It's going to be really lopsided after martials all get buffed (except paladins). I still think though that it...

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

They definitely are. They nerfed many of the most egregious nova damage abilities - divine smite, conjure animals, great weapon master / sharpshooter, assassin surprise and surprise in general, etc

D&D 5E (2014) What PC species should return for 5ed?

My thoughts exactly. Leave new races as a niche where third party publisher content shines

D&D 5E (2024) What is your oppinion of 5.24 so far?

My opinions: the new rules are not very different than the old ones, but almost all the changes are better. For people who are brand new to DnD it will make sense to only use the new rules because they're better. For people who already owns all the old books and don't want to re-buy nearly...

D&D 5E (2024) To Revise or not to Revise: What to do about the other Subclasses?

You have Tempest Cleric on there twice - I assume one was supposed to be Twilight Cleric (it's missing) but I'm not sure which

D&D 5E (2014) Is trafficking in soul coins ostensibly evil?

I don't see how soul coins and slavery are analogous. Owning slaves would always be evil because you are choosing to keep them in that state when you have the power to instantly set them free by just saying the word. But then maybe I'm misunderstanding how soul coins actually work - if a...

D&D 5E (2014) Is trafficking in soul coins ostensibly evil?

Depends on the exact circumstances but I would lean towards No, especially if the characters are in the Nine Hells where soul coins are a standard currency.

    D&D 5E (2014) Revised Proficiency Bonus House-Rule: Suggestions? (+)

It's not like it's rocket science or anything, but obviously it's way more complicated than the base rules - which is kind of the point, you're trying to solve an issue with the base rules being too overly simplistic. Both of these posts would be valid concerns, I was just throwing the idea...

    D&D 5E (2014) Revised Proficiency Bonus House-Rule: Suggestions? (+)

This is both way too complicated but also awesome enough that I'm tempted to consider the complexity worth it. I kind of want to make it even more complicated by saying the player can only choose to improve skills that they used X number of times during the previous level. I've always loved...
