House Rule: Flanking Grants CA to all melee combatants

My DM is thinking of house ruling flanking to provide Combat Advantage to all Melee Combatants on the target (reminds me of the harried rule from Earthdawn). The idea being that both monsters and PCs will benefit. Has anyone done this as a House Rule? I'm looking for feedback and suggestions pro...

    Clarify the Combat Challenge?

Ok, gotcha. The continued movement is not triggering the Combat Challenge. Understood. Now better clarification on the stopping? The OA stops the kobold from moving, but what if it still has movement points? Keeps on moving or does the OA end the kobolds move action?

    Clarify the Combat Challenge?

Hello, So I've got the 4ed books, but my DM snapped them up pretty quickly right after I got them. That's ok, I'm happy playing for the time being. Anyways, I'm playing a Warforged Fighter with Hammer + Shield. So far at Level 2 it's pretty cool. I'd like some clarification on...

New errata for core books, dated 7/2/2008

The way I interpret someone using a lightening or fire sword as follows: 1) At-Will is "off". There are two separate sources of damage: The untyped damaged from the "sword" portion and the typed damage from the fire. Fluff wise I take this to mean that the sword does damage as a sword normally...

New errata for core books, dated 7/2/2008

    - I don't get why people whine about WoTC using players feedback to adjust the game for balance. This is EXACTLY what Blizzard does with WoW. How many balance changes have been made in the game? Too numerous to count. 4ed should evolve and change due to people getting it into their hands. With...

    Dragonborn Ecology up at WotC

In the old days Metallic had multiple breath weapons IIRC. Gold had fire + chlorine gas, Silver had lightening and .... gas, Bronze had fire and lightening? This is AD&D now. EDIT: Sorry, actually that might have been metallics in D&D RB-era.

    Weapon Finesse?

I think right now this is handled by the Brawny Rogue build. The rogue is much more of a front liner than in the past. Remember that with marks, enemies are -2 on OA against a rogue trying to get behind them. You take the OA, then always try to move into a flanking position. Your DEX vs AC...

    Weapon Finesse?

I think the powers were specifically chosen with Stat vs Defense for a reason, if you look at the rogue he essentially has weapon finesse. I think the idea of a weapon finesse feat breaks those reasons, therefore I wouldn't allow it.

Cleave - Automatic hits on 2nd target?

Um, I was under the impression indirect cleave damage would not kill a minion.

    Red Hand of Doom 4.0

I wasn't sure if separating the Vraath Keep into multiple encounters was a good or bad idea. I wanted to have a challenge at the Keep, but was afraid that if I overly populated the individual encounters, and the PCs triggered them all, we'd see a TPK (see the Irontooth encounter in KotS).

    Red Hand of Doom 4.0

Why not simply make a lower level hydra, and I don't mean level decrement the existing hydra. Just make a level 4 solo brute. Take the "taste" of the hydra attacks from the existing hydra entries, and try to scale them towards the capabilities of a level 4 solo brute. Perhaps use the Adult...

    Red Hand of Doom 4.0

Hello folks, I too am interested in porting Red Hand of Doom to 4ed, though I've got a few different design considerations. Thoughts are appreciated - I'm thinking of envisioning the entire story as a heroic campaign. This would take the characters from level 1 to 10. - As a means of...

    D&D 4E Porting the RHoD to 4e

I looked about 20 pages in and missed it. Any chance someone who can search provide a link within this thread, to essentially close this thread? EDIT Nevermind I found it. Here it is: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=229608

    D&D 4E Porting the RHoD to 4e

I think 4ed could really spice up some of the encounters too. I see minions really coming into play in this adventure to give that epic war feel to it.

    D&D 4E Porting the RHoD to 4e

Cool to know. Is there any idea what tier (or level) it would start at? I was thinking of establishing a Level 1 campaign within the locale of RHoD then leading into a converted RHoD

    D&D 4E Porting the RHoD to 4e

Has anyone looked at porting the Red Hand of Doom to 4ed? Do you think it's an appropriate adventure to try to port, or are the design considerations too different?

Smart DM, Stupid Monsters (possible KotS spoilers)

Essentially what happened when I ran was the slinger realized that the outside defenses got toasted in 2 rounds, so it ran in to warn the insiders. The party thought they had more time to catch him, and essentially ran right into quite the fight. While Irontooth is bad ass, the Wyrmpriest was...

Smart DM, Stupid Monsters (possible KotS spoilers)

Hello, I'm curious to get people's take on this issue. It's not 4ed specific, but being that I'm going to be running some more 4ed encounters, that will be the context I'm apply the ideas to. So firstly, I'm not trying to toot my own horn, but I consider myself a reasonably...

    Warlord - I don't get it

Whomever suggested that the Warlord was the proper 4e replacement for the Bard is 100% correct. I currently have a Bard in a 3.5 campaign, and once I saw the Warlord class I realized this was the character I was trying to make. I'm hoping that we'll change over our 3.5 group to 4e, as the group...
