    A New Take on Metamagic

I just allow Wizards and Sorcerers to freely metamagic (with the appropriate feat) by expending an extra spell slot of the appropriate level. For instance a quickened fireball would take a memorized (if wizard) fireball and any 4th level spell. This does not apply to Heighten Spell, which is...

    The death of bonus stacking?

I'm good with the 3e concept, just not its implementation. IMO, there should be the following bonuses: Racial Inherent (from ability scores only) Situation Magic

How many official settings have there been?

Seems appropriate to mention that these were not published by TSR/WotC. They were not any less official, but some might view them differently.

Which spells do you usually imagine linked to an orb, staff or wand? (Tome optional)

It does, but it really doesn't fit my perceptions of how magic works. Wands are Disney (and more recently Harry Potter) and street magician fare. I don't see any of these items as shooting a magical effect. That's what fingers and palms are for. Staffs always seemed to be channeling devices...

Which spells do you usually imagine linked to an orb, staff or wand? (Tome optional)

I totally think of that in reverse. A wand is small and easy to aim at a target. A staff is designed to raise up and then slam into the ground, creating an effect.

Which spells do you usually imagine linked to an orb, staff or wand? (Tome optional)

So basically you see them exactly as WotC has told you to see them ;)

Which spells do you usually imagine linked to an orb, staff or wand? (Tome optional)

Wand - apprentices use them to learn how to properly gesture. Real wizards don't use wands. Orb - divination and enhancing the range/area of magic. Some of the most powerful magical effects (sending a storm to torment a kingdom) require orbs. Tome - many spells requires tomes. The main...

D&D 4E WHat should be random in 4E?

You bring up an excellent point regarding DR. That's one of my favorite features of DR is that I feel comfortable giving my players the AC of their opponents (which speeds things up) and I don't worry about random HP. I just keep the DR hidden and the players can never peg a monster (except...

D&D 4E WHat should be random in 4E?

Yeah, I'd say so. I guess it depends on the players. My group crunches the numbers on everything. ACs, Saves, HP, etc. I don't memorize players' HP and Saves and I don't expect them to calculate those for my mooks. ACs I'll usually give them after the first couple of rounds for convenience...

Is the Character on the Players Handbook Cover Draconic?

I have to agree. The skin tone and especially the horns match up with the DMG dragon.

    They Changed FIREBALL?

I think the advent of emoticons have ruined any critical reading of electronic correspondence. I think if you go back and read the first post carefully, you'll see that it was intended to be humorous.

    Every Edition Has Its Setting

Wholeheartedly agree. I think Dragonlance was one of the best examples of using Prestige Classes and while their editing/testing is a bit subpar, the overall quality of the game was fantastic. I always liked reading about DL before, but in 3e I finally wanted to PLAY it.

    Why bother with Vanilla?

Sales seem to imply that people prefer Vanilla settings. Otherwise we would have seen 3e Planescape, Spelljammer, and Dark Sun instead of 3e Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, and Greyhwak. As to the incongruency you mentioned, I think it has to do with evolution vs. revolution. Evolutionists...

    Why bother with Vanilla?

Could be the fact that when most people basically want a Vanilla setting, they all have their little pet preferences which may not be drastic but provides a market for the "perfect" setting. FR and GH, for example, to me seem very similar except in their covered depth. So if you want to play a...

D&D 4E WHat should be random in 4E?

What's wrong with 3e's system of applying the same logic to HP, except placing it in the player's control? Random HP server the same useful purpose that random ability scores do: differenting characters whose players wish to have them created more "organically".

D&D 4E WHat should be random in 4E?

Wow, I'm totally inline with everyone else except on Monster HP. I don't like the player's counting down an opponent's HP so I prefer random HP for monsters. I think a perfect way to do it would be (in the context of 3e's rules) 1 full HD + 75% avg. HD + 25% random HD (rounded down, min 1)...

D&D 4E Rename the races in 4E? Why halflings and not hobbits? Dwur not dwarf...

Except that it probably never will in America. Every time copyright sunset comes up in America big corporations (Disney, primarily) lobby to have it extended. Disney is adament that Mickey Mouse not become public domain. And he predates the Bagginses by at least a few years.

D&D 4E Poll: Who Would LIke to See the Drow in 4E PHB?

I put I don't care, but I really do. If Elf is in there, Drow should not be. Too much space devoted to two races that are too similar.

    Metalheads! Confess & Brag

I LOVED Damnation. But I'm a big My Dying Bride fan and especially of Martin Powell (MDB's violinist, now CoF's Keyboardist) who wrote most of the album.
